hi can someone please help me? also i would love to candle my 22 eggs but my broody hen will not let me touch any of the eggs she growls and trys to peck me when i even try to come close guess i will have to wait to she what hatches

I would say an 8 X 10 coop would have room for min. 20 and you could get away with more if they are bantams. IT all depends on how they seem to act when placed in there and really they will be the judge of if they are overcrowded or not. If they have lots of outside space to spend most of their day then I would say you can fit more than the 20 no problem. Maybe try looking over at the Coop design thread and see if anyone has a "just for bantams" coop and you might be able to see how many they fit into theirs. Hope that helps.

Well, I've been TRYING to keep up with this thread but I figured out this morning that when I click on "new messages", it skips a few pages... UGH!!!! I'm NOT going to try to read this entire thread all over again... LOL... I figure I will just open a new tab with the last message i read and then when I come back to the computer, I will just hit refresh!! Maybe i won't miss anything this time...

Anyway, here's an update... I candled this morning because the bator started to "not smell very good" and I didn't want to take ANY chances since I did get 33 eggs that I was leary about... I know it was a bit early but I usually candle around day 7 and then one more time between day 16-18.. Anything questionable gets a "?" and anything good gets a

... I make absolutely POSITIVE I'm only culling BAD eggs...

Started with 113 eggs

8 Lavender Orpingtons
34 EE's
38 my own mix
33 from a friend's mix

Here are my results...

7 Lavender Orpingtons are great! 1 was questionable because it was pretty porous and I just couldn't tell if there were veins or not..
3 EE with blood rings and 2 clear
3 of my own mix had blood rings and 3 were clear
1 of my friends mix was clear and 2 were BAD!!!! When I wrote "bad" on the top, the pencil actually BROKE the shell!!

Yep!! I am SOOOOOOOO glad I did go ahead and candle!!!

So, I have 99 eggs remaining... There were a few I put "?" on because I just couldn't tell one way or the other.. Most of those were from one of my EE's... Her eggs are normally really good hatchers, I just can't see into those things!!! Again, I will candle somewhere between day 16-18 but here is the tally so far..

8 Lavender Orpingtons
29 EE's
32 my own mix
30 from a friend's mix

I'm actually glad I could make some room in there since another friend of mine is selling me 8 more Lavender Orpington eggs this weekend.... LOL

Sorry about your roos.

I have what sound like squeeky toys gone wrong on my back lawn. Poor bantie Cochins just can't get the hang of it like the big boys,

they stay like that.

And congrats on the 100% hatch!

Oh, and I candled too... looks like my Dorking will be an only chick if it hatches.

Darn it! None of the Silver Sussex look any good and the other Dorking that looked like it was doing something but didn't look right is a blood ring tonight.
