Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Refrigerating is not the ideal way to store them, but it doesn't mean they won't hatch. There have been people here that have incubated eggs that had been refrigerated, and hatched them just fine. You just don't want to stick them in the bator cold. So I pulled mine out so they will now sit at room temp.

Thank you for sharing . I raised room temp to 72 to stabilize the 'bator . In your experience , is that too warm for the last three days of egg storage ?

I wouldn't think it would be an issue. I wouldn't store them right by my woodstove, but I've stored eggs on my counter in the summer (when it was hotter in the house) and it didn't affect them hatching.

I store mine in an egg carton wide end up and prop the end up on a tuperware container (tuperware comes in handy for LOTS of stuff). Then I periodically shift it so the other side is propped up.

Many chicken breeds originated in warmer tropical places. Jungles in Asia, South America, and other such places. Hens would leave their nests unattended in the heat before setting and still have hatches.

I should think storing them in warm temps shouldn't have that big of an effect on the hatch rate of the eggs as long as they didn't reach above 90 for an extended period of time.

Eggs are generally viable in the refridgerator as long as they didn't freeze. Freezing them will keep them from hatching.

Mahonri!!! They finally updated the tracking for your eggs- it no longer looks like they haven't been taken to the PO, but shows them out for delivery in PHX! Woohoo!!

I was afraid they were in a corner somewhere in an airport or hub.

*sigh* Much better.

Now, if the stupid road crew would just get DONE sealing the street so I can leave my house! I need to go collect eggs out at the farm, dangit!

Does anyone have any eggs they can ship me for the hatch? I can pay the shipping and maybe a little for the eggs.

I can't find any eggs locally to hatch and I don't trust e-bay eggs at all.

I had the same problem with eggs shipped to me. The tracking didn't update until they got to Salt Lake City to come to our local post office. You got to wonder why they even give tracking numbers if they are not going to track them. UPS and FedEx scan and update every time they go from one place to the other! GGGGRRRRRR

Illias eggs are here and in the turner.

And they are BEAUTIFUL.

I imagine I'll get Renee's and Patty's tomorrow.... JUST IN TIME!

I won't be able to catch up on this thread until latter tonight. My #3 son has his Eagle Scout board of review tonight. He finished up the last of his write up two days ago... just in time. His 18th Birthday is today.

I've got to go back to work. Lunch hour is over.
