Here I is LOL
Tweeked the bator all day yesterday , trying to bring it down to correct temps . Finally ran at 99.1 to 100.3 for 2 hrs [ middle of the egg ] , so I went grocery shopping . Got home in under 2 hrs [ got chicken feed too ] ; bator running at 97 to 98

. I fell asleep last night between tweeks , but was close , and woke up at three a.m. to find it back down to 98 again . Its getting close again now , but figure it will mess up a little as soon as I take out that turner LOL . I hope these unborn chicks are tough little buggers .

One of my three hygrometers quit working after lockdown.

heart attack here I come.

I always loose it during "confinement".

To everyone!

Don't worry too much about the power outages.....If anyone has experienced incubating, lockdown and hatches during power outages, I gotcha covered.
I always hatch in the winter and without fail every set we have an outage......'cept this time but the day is young and we are expecting snow and a cold snap today and tomorrow. My best hatches happen when we have had a power outage. Those little eggies are tuff and can handle more than we think.

When I am worried about outages I get as many plastic water bottles as I can find and have them ready to fill with 99.5 water or the hottest water I can get out of the tap after the power has gone out. Sometimes in my little LG's depending on how many eggs I have set, I can squeeze 3 bottles in a bator and when the power goes out I let humidity go out the window, most important thing at that point is heat. I close 'em up tight and leave one vent hole open and cover and wrap them with towels and wait. Sometimes the power is out so long that I have to boil water on the woodstove to refill my water bottles. I've had the temp drop as far as 71 for about 19 hours on day 17....31 out of 38 hatched that time. During my Delaware hatch a couple of months ago, I think it was day 22 we where without power for many many many hours and 16 of the little buggers hatched along with some Marans, Wellies and Olive Eggers. They are tuff tuff tuff little buggers.

Now watch I'll have a stupid hatch this time because we haven't had a power outage......yet.

Yeah the heaviest snow is yet to come. Right now our boss, who lives just down the street from us, is having us wait until the sun comes up to make a decision. It is snowing pretty good out there right now. Hopefully he decides to just call it or they close the post. I don't like driving in the white stuff, so DH does most of the driving to and from work. Even he is not feeling frisky enough to attempt the drive this morning. Worse comes to worse, we can just take a vacation day. I am thinking that twisty road without guardrails in many places probably is not a good idea today.

Pinkchick, thank you so much for the encouraging news! When I woke up and realized the power was out my first thought was about the incubator. I don't care if they are late hatching just as long as they hatch healthy! You have eased my mind a lot!

ETA - The closet hatch-a-holic (AKA DH) even went to check what the temp was on the bator forgetting that the power was out and you wouldn't be able to see what it was.

So in other words it really doesn't matter that it quit working, you would still be a basket case at this point, right?

Yeah that way I can get the eggs into lockdown and just paste my face to the bator all day to see if I can see any "wiggles"
