Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Me too . The nearest TJs for me would be Chicago or St Louis ; I'm not driving that far [ not saying I didn't think about it

I'm thinking about the Chinese NY Hatch ......................... if that breeding pen goes back to laying ................................ if a few are fertile ................................ hmmmmmmmm .

I believe I messed up bad this morning . I had two unpipped eggs left when I pulled the plug . I figured they had pipped internally and drowned . I did a eggopsy a little bit ago and found two perfect chicks , never internally pipped , one with just a little bit of yolk still unabsorbed . I think I should have left the bator plugged in another day

I'll never tell.

Hey

I slipped eggs by my husband for a long time.

Even a chick order of 25!

One little ole Emu egg would be a piece of cake.

This guy's pretty good. I ordered 25 chicks when I really only "wanted" 8. Poor thing built an 8x8 coop for me, then realized I wasn't going to give ANY of the (ahem) 31 chicks away and then built another 8x12 extension onto the coop. Now I've got an incubator, and 20 chicks in the basement. I've at least got most of them leaving for a new home next weekend. But what kind of coop does one need for an emu?

A dog run or corral.LOL

All I said to DH a few months ago was that I loved the color of emu eggs

DH: 'NO! Don't even think about it.

My response: It could stay with the horses and goats..."

So do I keep going back at it or just let it go on it's own?

Sounds like you're advice (thank you for it, by the way!) is to keep going back as soon as the blood dries up?? There wasn't much and it appears to be stopped now.

Now how hard would it be to explain to the boyfriend (who is a very lovely, understanding, mild tempered man) that an emu egg just happened to show up in a dozen trader joe's eggs that I drove over 100 miles round trip to pick up and they all just happened to accidentally jump in my incubator...

Hah! I kept one of my 'heavy red' meat hens back for breeding and put her in the pen with my barred rock flock. I did this MONTHS ago and I told my husband I was doing this. Today he says 'boy, I dunno where that brown hen came from, she must be a mutant or something...'
