I hatched quail for the first time this hatch and I only got one chick........so.........I ordered more eggs and am setting them next week along with some chicken eggs. So my question to you is, did you incubate the quail and chickens together??? I may need a few pointers on this. Please.

I hatch Quail and Chicken ggss together quite often. Be sure to set the quail to hatch the same day as the chickens, so lockdown is the same day. I have baskets for the quail to keep them out of trouble with the chickens. The baskets are just plastic berry baskets flipped upside down over the quail eggs. It works to keep them in. Humidity's the same and turning's the same, so no worries there. Other than that it's all the same mostly.

Ok thanks for the tips! I never thought of a berry basket. I am using my Brinsea so it is cramped for room but I think I can make them a section to themselves so they don't get trampled. I really hope I can get a few more to hatch so my "house quail" lonely chick gets some of his own kind to grow up with, so they can go outside!!!

Yeah did you see my idea about that?? Sweet! Someone was brave enough to start it. I'm a big chicken about starting threads.

I did incubate them together, but did not have the quail eggs in the bator in time for the NYE hatch. This was only my second time incubating and Scooter was the only 1 of 4 quail eggs to hatch. The only thing I know for sure is that if you want to time them together for hatch, add the quail 7 days after the chicken eggs. I have some more eggs in now and a few gathered for later. I am planning to add them on the 13th for the Chinese New Year hatch (20th for the quail)

I'm used to my Hova Bator. Lots of room for hatch time for things like that.

I could send you a friend for him in about 4 weeks.

Ok, I have a confession to make... I don't actually have any quail eggs. YET. Spring may be a different story.. Can you just imagine me running through my hayfield trying to scare them off of their nests to steal their eggs....

Somehow.... yes.

Gotcha hurley! Got any pics or comments about your hatch for me?

This photo is the only one I have from the hatch, my first chick on NYD sitting on pipped siblings. "Pullet in Training"

Great first try, lots learned to be applied to the next hatch. I'm so very pleased with my new chicks. Also tickled that my first chick hatched NYD and is from my pullets raised this year as my first laying group from day-old chicks.
