My mother had A LOT of children and was very religious. People used to say that to her all the time. I will never forget - because she shocked us all - one time she replied "yes, I just like is so much I can't stop". I don't think I have ever laughed so hard.

Idealistic Roo - I don't know what to say. When something bad happens to one of my chicks, I always want to "put it out of its misery". Mostly though I just don't want to see it suffer, meaning I just cringe watching it happen. At that point I always turn to my husband and ask him to do it. But he has a different perspective - "We will see". And amazingly - a lot of them pull through.
Do what you think is right. It is a hard call to make.

If it is eating and drinking then it is at least thriving a little bit. Just put some Neosporin on the wound to prevent infectiona nd see what happens. Unless it is a gaping, oozing hole i'm sure it is fine.

Don't feel too bad.. I'm 36 and haven't had one at all.. I guess that makes me feel like I earn the nicely worded - "Chicken-Poo" award....

Same boat here... Most days I still feel like I'm 12 - and I'd have no idea what to do with a kid. They're like little aliens to me.

Too many pages to go back and search for them all. I about fell out of my chair laughing when we were imagining the "riot" for the box of eggs that the postman was carrying before the set!

If it isn't bleeding, I'm not too sure I would dispatch it just yet.. It may heal depending exactly what you mean by OPEN... Like, how open?

I guess I need to take another picture and show the underside! I can't believe it is still doing as well as it is. I guess it should have hatched slower. Also, I worry that the bandaid on it may have slowed the healing. The bandaid came off this morning and what is underneath is not pretty. It is kinda like a biology class dissection running around chirping and cuddling with the other chick and with the stuffed animal! I sure can't put it in the brooder with the other 25 chicks, and its sibling needs to be taken out of the hospital tank, because it is starting to pick at it, just the way chicks do.

It is the same even after you have them - little aliens, and you are not talking in their language at all
