Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

This is going to be a GREAT HATCH!!! It takes time for me just to catch up after 6 hours!

I didn't get home until 6:30PM tonight and went out to check on all of the chickens, in the Ameraucana coop they were all on the upper roosts sitting as close to one another as possible. In the summer they use the lower roosts and spread out! Not one egg from that coop in three days!

Peachick put a Splash Wheaten roo and a BW pullet in a box and they are on their way to Phoenix from MD! Told my wife she was going to have to make a trip to the Post Office tomorrow and then I said, BTW, you may also have to pick up eggs this week too. She just rolled her eyes.

She then said, "You just get rid of two roos and now you are getting another one?" My son piped up and said, but mom, you don't understand, this one is a rare SPLASH Wheaten. She rolled her eyes again.

Finished up filling the turner today , replacing those marked as gathered too cold , with two extra plus one more that felt too cold . I suppose I should keep gathering and replace the oldest { Dec 1 } ; but you know , its just getting colder and my pullets are getting sick and tired of me trying to get their eggs before they are even laid .

. At the top is an Ameraucanas first egg ; brilliant colored but the flash washed it out some and I'm not taking it outside for natural light . One EE lays a blue so I can't tell if she laid more or not .

All but a few should be EE chicks if they hatch :

Two Ameraucana males [ a white , and a splash with red bleed so I call him an EE ] over 7 Speckled Sussex , 4 Cornish meat hybrids , and three Gold Laced Wyandottes [ all 2010 pullets ]

three [ down to two now ] Cornish meat hybrid males over 4 WLR Cornish , 3 Easter Eggers , and 2 Ameraucana pullets [ only one of which started laying in time ]

Thank you Mahonri , and I should have added that thanks to my early training in redneck technology , I now have a little piece of aluminum foil added to my internet card's tiny little antena and signal strength has been good ever since .

It's about an inch wide and 6 high , wraps around the antena and stands straight up , and looks very much like a shiney , silver feather with the quill at the bottom due to an uneven tear making the top more narrow .

Mahonri- so rememvber ages ago weall (AZ Peeps) chicken-trained some hatching eggs from my brood down to Tucson Tofu? Anywhoo, two of the chicks she hatched are PERFECT for my little project. SO, I am gathering eggs to join you, in hopes I get as genetically lucky as she did.

BTW- the eggs I want are from your old SS, Olivia. SHe has FINALLY come out of her molt, with the most beautiful patterning. Lotsa white.
