Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I'm going to bow out of hatching. I wasn't able to find the eggs I was after, and since I just separated my roosters, I've decided to wait until they are pure again to hatch. Then I can fill my bator.

But I'll still be here for cheering, support and hand holding.

My bantams take 21 days just like my large fowl.

Really? My little Pyncheons hatched at 18 days. I was looking for some Serama eggs and thought they hatched at 18 days.

Heather B - loved your post and reference to "shiny". I, for whatever reason, cannot seem to feel at ease if every slot in the incubator is not filled! And then there is the frustration of bidding on eggs and worrying that they will arrive at roughly the same time so I can set them at the same time! The difficulty of not getting too many eggs and yet...just enough to fill it to the T??? ugh! I make this much more difficult than it should be!!!

My silkies always hatch at 19 days...but that is under a hen. I was curious too?

I just hatched out 2 batches of seramas. 1st batch had silkies also. Both batches hatched in 20 days. Homemade incubator, nothing fancy from an old fish tank. Temps all over on the second batch with the same results. My take silkies & seramas...20 days, but these were my 1st time hatching.... I am far from experienced.

p.s. I did buy the Brinsea octagon 20 with turner and have eggs in now due 12-13.

Thanks! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's easily distracted.. but I'll pay more attention in the future, I don't want to end up with eggs I can't set!

The first group I did was ordered from I think 4 different places, and arrived staggered over about two weeks. I figured no problem, I can hand turn the others while some are hatching. Oooo yeah. That didn't last long

I took a few of the turner trays out for the first little batch, and realized I should probably set up another incubator for hatching like so many on here have.. But now there's the temptation to fill that one up too.

Maybe this time next year I'll be setting eggs from my own girls and not worrying over how many there are and whether they'll get here when I want them here!

I'd feel fine just eating the extras then, too.
