Welcome to BYC. Thanks for participating with your guess.

That's a great tip. I am sure some will use that, too! Thanks for that!

Closest guess I've seen so far.

Humidity in my family room runs at 35%, but it constantly goes down in the hovabator.

Who checks the humidity in their family room?

In kansas we run as high as 80% humidity, maybe higher during the summer,,,in winter it can be a quarter of that...I used too hatch alot during the summer months in high humidity, with most of my hatches with an 100% hatch rate*this was with ameraucanas,,with more roosters than needed I'm sure, being I was just a kid.LOL* so I'm sure the hens were over fertilized...

....I never checked the humidity with any gauge,,just had the cheap therm that came with the bower and kept the little bowl full of water and hand turned the eggs morn and night....So,,I was just thinking it might be worth running one while hatching in the winter..........

Oooops,didn't read it all....

Got up and 13 year old was watching "Family Guy", that got shut off PDQ, so I checked the bators.

Humidity was back down to 25% in the hovabator... put enough warmed, distilled water back in through the blue hose to bring it back up to 40% hopefully that will last through the night.

Maybe I should get a humidifier for the family room....

Actually the reason I know what the humidity is in the family room is because on my two wireless units there is an "inside/outside" reading... Outside, being the bator, inside being the family room. Both read identical both inside *family room*... At 35%. They only vary a point from each other in the bator.
