Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

So I candled the 7 eggs tonight. Two of them showed definite movement. One or two others have potential but no movement. Two are definitely not developing so far; one is clear and the other has a ring that I understand means bacterial contamination. I'll have to show the movement to my 4-year-old tomorrow. She'll be thrilled!

I love this thread!!

I normally just visit the Breeds/Genetics forum, but so glad I found y'all. There is not much happening
on the other forums ('tis the season), but I can always count on some highly entertaining action here!

Nekkid kids, cute kids, beautiful chicken pics, putting faces to BYC names...you got it goin' on

I am not participating in the NY hatch as I have 20 five week olds in the outside brooder, and
50 one week olds inside...(congratulate me on my restraint!) and am saving BLRW from pullets that
just started laying a few weeks ago to set next week (ok, maybe not so restrained)...but the timing
was off for me.

I am participating vicariously I guess, as Kathy is doing a test hatch of my Marans....if that counts.

Mahonri...I've read and enjoyed your posts since I found BYC...I'm a fellow breeder of W/BW Ameraucanas...LOVE them.
I'm looking forward to pics of your new pair, as well as watching your hatch angst

Glad you are a part of the hatch even if it is in someone else's incubator.

I'm having a bit of a fertility problem with my Ameraucanas at present... I'm guessing it is because they've all just come through a molt and there isn't as much light, but I have a couple of girls that are laying VERY blue eggs and I'm going to be hatching them and saving the offspring if the roo(s) will do his(their) job. long story.

Mahonri--if you will be around for a mintute, I wil give you the results of the candling you all peer-pressured me into.

I'll be here for a few more minutes.. I need to candle again too! I must be having a fertility issue with my silkies.. First candle was so poor I didn't even check them all.. Been skeered.. LOL

Ok, so not too bad!! 6 out of 8 isn't bad.. One had a blood ring and the other is just clear.. The clear one is out of my black pen. They are still on the young side, so I won't give them to harsh of a talk..

I can't begin to know what is inside all those drywall-thick Olive Eggers or the FCBM eggs. We'll just let those go until day 25, ok?

Are we still soon enough along in the process that I can feed all these eggs to the chooks?
