Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I suppose what I'll have to do then is have you all help me pic the roo that best represents the Viking chicken and then do taste testing on the remainder. See if my helmets grow horns....

Sorry Sassafras.. you Alohas all look alike.....

DS #4 wants to climb to the top of Camelback in the AM... I'd better hit the sac.

DS #1 fly's home Sunday morning! WAHOO! another hand for chores!

Night, ya'll. I think the BIL wants his couch, and I had better go to bed before I get in trouble for teasing.

You are all nuts. Kathy I can't fight with you about feathered shanks via PM's because I keep getting a note that my inbox is full, even though I deleted over half my PM's. We can fight tomorrow maybe if it is fixed.

OK, I have several questions now, after seeing these descriptions.........

I know what a yolker and a blood ring are and what they are supposed to look like, but what does a 'scrambled' one look like when candled (not in a pan!)?? And what does a 'detached air cell' look like? Not that I would be able to tell myself even if I know what they are supposed to look like. This candling business is not so easy for this beginner. Mine never look like the pictures......

I did candle them tonight and attempt to figure out if they are good or not. But I really still don't know. All but one definitely are not clear looking like my eggs in the fridge, so I assume 'something' has happened/developed! But I don't see any movement, and I don't see any fetus shape in any of them. I DO see veins in most of them, and they are dark/dense instead of looking light all the way through. One maybe has a blood ring, but not very sure about that. The only other time I've tried candling was when my broody hen hatched some chicks, and I never saw much of anything in those either. So, bottom line is that I guess I'll have to wait and be surprised on NY's - either in a good way or a sad way.

Last question: What is an Aloha egg?

Thanks! Sure enjoying this thread and being a part of the insaneness.
