I GOT A FIRST POLISH EGG TODAY... from the group I got from Noskiveez that hatched in March. Took it 9 months but hey!

Made my day.

I spent the afternoon cooking so I could have good light to take food pictures. My camera isnt great, so I really have to work at making anything look apetizing.

I also set the ~9 or so eggs I was saving for Sommer. She decided she didn't need them, so I might as well put them in with the rest.

Those darn Polish seem to take forever to lay. I had that experience, too. I didn't like them, and sold all of them.

Well, the Icelandics are good layers. Nice white eggs, and lay nearly every day, too!

At least when I put the Polish up for sale, I can say they are at point of lay! The roo with them just barely started crowing. He is hysterical to listen to, but I've never seen him get successful.

Horribly stormy here today. The wind (gusts up to 50 MPH) and the heavy rain have made everything a mucky mess. You know it's a really bad day when your chickens won't even come out of the coop.

I candled my eggs today since the rest of the week is going to be nuts. I won't candle again until lock down.
Here's what's left from 30+ eggs

3 Midget White Turkey
4 Splash Marans
11 Blue Eggs (I can't remember which ones are which

White and W/BW Ameraucana's)
2 ?? 1st gen. Olive Eggers (Too Dark to tell)
2 ?? Project Pullet eggs (Too thick to tell)

Total eggs...22 Now everyone has a space in the racks. This is why I over pack the incubator so I can still have a full hatch

So now for the worry...

As I was candling my four year old daughter comes bounding in and asks if I am checking for babies. Mid sentence she coughs over the entire tray of eggs. Do you think this is going to affect my hatch? I'm really worried about the turkeys, I know they are sensitive.

Wind is bad here.we live on the gorge. Worried about losing power.
Wondering if anyone has used hand warmers?
We have a generator but it is a pain to get going and very noisey.
thinking for short term.....although we were out for thirteen days a few years ago.................

Yes, it would be good to get more Icelandics out there. But, this is where I am at with it .... I have eggs and chicks, and no one is speaking up for them. I am now gonna start eating the eggs, at least until some of these chicks are taken.
