Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Merry Christmas Eve everyone.

Laree......That SO sounds like my family.

Mahonri.......Your wife is crazy. No way, no how would you get me anywhere near a store on Christmas Eve. Went shopping ONCE on Black Friday, and NEVER AGAIN!

My landlady's free ranging Barbados sheep have discovered I throw treats out for the flock near my front door just before I leave for work. (I need to keep the milling throng from gathering around the car as I back out and head down the gravel drive to the gate...)

There are three sheep, a mom and her twins. "Baby" and Hansel and Gretyl. Baby is very personable and pushy

She rushed over, with the twins right behind her, scattering the chickens. They regrouped quickly, because they forage around the sheep all the time. But suddenly the area near my front door was quite crowded.

Sheep are stubborn. At least I didn't have to worry about them wanting to run out the open gate as I drove through and then closed it behind me. Some mornings Baby and I have encounters and discussions and I am late to work after chasing/pushing her back behind the gate.

I so want to get a photo of one of the chickens on Baby's back, some day.

The only funny pics I have do not have chickens in them. I would offer up my "blackmail" picture I have in reserve of my DS when he was around four or five stuck on the throne. Seriously thought we were going to have to call the fire department to get him out of it.

Nothing like the smell of rotten egg in the morning!

I got up at 4:30 this morning, I had forgotten to turn the furnace down last night and it was HOT and dry in my bedroom!

I started coffee, put cinnamon rolls in the oven and turned on the water to draw a bath (huge tub, takes forever to fill), then went out to the garage to check on my chicks and eggs.

One of the E.E. eggs that I could not see into with my superbright candler was OOzing! STENCH! So, I carefully got it out and cleaned up the mess as best I could.

I fed the chicks and listened to my 9 week old OEGB squeak out a few crows, then went back inside.

Did you remember reading about the tub previously?

Well, I didn't.

The bath had filled, and so had my parents bedroom, their sitting room and my father's study...

I spent the next 3 hours sopping up water, I used EVERY towel and rag in the house before remembering the existence of the mop! I turned on all the heaters and fans in the house and managed to blow several breakers running a hair dryer at the same time as the heaters.

There were several stacks of large old books that were the hardest hit. I spent an hour with the hair dryer going at the books, but they are crinkly now.

I put forks under all the legs of the big furniture so air could flow under and the water could get away from the wood.

I think I need to rent a carpet cleaner to extract the water, I thought I had all the water out, but I walked to the door in my socks and had wet socks by the time I got to the door.

All this for 1 rotten egg...

My parents are driving home on Christmas day, so I have 1 day to get the house back to normal!

I am at work now, but anxious to get back home and check on the fans and heaters!

I''ve not yet run into a egg going bad in my bator , but then this is only my second time and its not over yet .
However ..........................
When I installed the bathtub in my old place , I got cheap and used 1/2" lines to save money , next error was to flip the over flow up-side-down to get deeper soaking capacity , and finally caulked it shut when I discovered my big old body still would not completely submerge . Although I removed the caulking after a couple of times of getting involved in something [ and forgetting about the water running ] while that slow flowing tub filled , I had stuffed a plastic bag in the overflow tube to hold the caulk so .......................

On the numerous times I overflowed that tub , I learned that the nearest door went to the basement with a dirt floor so it caught the most of it , two large bath towels soaked up most of what was standing , a fan on high would dry the remainder in about 4 hours , and would humidify my home in the winter .
