Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Speaking of coops, I still have one kit in a box, and just "won" another, which is supposedly on its way as I type this. I gotta get those chicks in the ginormous brooder out into some housing pretty soon. Luckily, I do keep new hatchlings in the bathroom nursery for a week just to make sure they are all doing okay.

Ducklings go outside this weekend, for the New Year.

I'm giving up space utilized by two raised garden beds which didn't do diddly squat this past year, except entertain dust bathing chickens. (Still have another, and will use those Topsy Turvey tomato tree things again. I get good yield out of those - have three.)

Where / how do we see this infamous NY hat??

It's on her avatar but for some reason has gone back to the 2022 hat?

Mahonri...........I think we are going to have to lockdown early Wed. I candled the Icelandic eggs the other day, and they are filling up fast!

Has anyone hatched bantams in egg cartons? I get better hatches in egg cartons, but I've never hatched bantams before. ETA: Debating whether I should do egg cartons or lay them on their sides.

We hatch everything in cartons. Bantam Polish, d'Uccles, Silkies, and BLRW. The hatch perfectly fine in them. I find once they can get out, they launch themselves out of the eggs and the cartons. Haven't had a problem yet.

Very exciting that some people have rockin' eggs!! I haven't seen my move yet.....now I'll be worried because mine are 'slow'. LOL

Hubby and I are both sick today, so I'm home and I'll probably be spending more time on this forum and/or staring at my eggs. I sure don't have the energy to do anything else. This is the first time I've been sick (flu-type) in as long as I can rememeber! I never miss work for being sick. It really kind of sucks.

They're a South American bird of Asian descent. Here's a shot of mine:

They're somewhat similar, yet distinct from, Jitokko and Mapuche. They have slate legs, extra toes, a minimal crest behind the comb, and a lovely disposition. They talk a lot and have a chattering crow.
