Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Still nothing wiggling around in there.

On another note, my grown up chickens continue to amaze me. It's pitch dark out when I go out and open the coop (6 am ish right now). And each morning I've got chickens already in the nest boxes and eggs laid. No supplemental light, either. I can't imagine their jaunt to the nestboxes in the dark! Must be comical.

Probably looks like my jaunt to the coffee maker for my first cup of coffee in the morning!

Believe it or not, knowing that I am not the only one with eggs just sitting in the bator looking like they have no intention of hatching makes me feel better. Makes me hope that mine are just getting ready to hatch. Hearing about other people's eggs rocking and rolling makes me nervous!

Mahonri, I'm hitting Wally world for some of that 5htp or whatever it is too, Awakened by coyotes at 2:45, checked on the brooder and henhouse, just got back to sleep and a microburst or similar hit and ripped the tarp half off the AZ room. Don't k now what the top wind speed was, but I saw 30 sustained. A 30 foot tarp flapping in 30 plus mph winds makes a HECK of a racket! Finally dropped back down to 20 so I could re-secure it, now can't sleep, so, like I said, I sympathize with you Mahonri. Going to find an alcoholic sleep aid, and try for a nap.

Good luck to all you hatchaholics. It may be an incurable disease, but nights like this can definitely send it into remission!

DSgard, I've always used egg cartons so I've never seen rocking and rolling, didn't know they did such a thing.

Thanks Bob! Like I said, the more I hear that other people's eggs are doing the same thing mine are, the better I feel and the more hopeful I am. I am not counting any of them until they are out of the shells but this is my first time incubating and all I can imagine is a week from New Year's Day still looking at the same eight eggs and having to give up on them. Just

that I didn't mess this up along the line. I shouldn't have but the closer we get to hatching day the more sure I am that I screwed it up. I don't know why I feel this way, maybe I am just preparing myself for disappointment. IDK

ds, my first hatch in my homemade incubator I had about 77% success rate with my hens eggs. i hovered over that thing constantly, hand turning 3 times a day, constantly checking temp and humidity. I have become way more lacksadaisical (sp) since then. I now use a cabinet style, like a Sportsman's, and I pretty much set it and forget it, add water every few days, let it do it's thing. If the temp and humidity aren't way out of line, they'll hatch. Broodies aren't near as consistent as a mechanical incubator, so, don't stress. (sorry, I'm halfway through my alcoholic sleep aid, so I may be rambling, see previous post,

Welll my guess of 4500 post has been blown ot of the water. What was I thinking! Ooo welll.

On a happy note I had 5 duckling hatch yesterday, one more to go, just jiggling but not pipped. 1st time hatching ducks, dang they are cute.

My aunt, cousin & her 2 children drove up from SC to be here for the New Year, I am not sure how 9 faces (me , my mom and 3 kids plus 4 of them ) are going to fit with faces pressed up against the Brinsea that is on the counter in my laundry room!!! The ducks hatched from a homemade 10 gallon fishtank incubator and we were all packed into my tiny office like sardines, add a dozen dogs and it was ridiculous! OOO did I mention that my laundry room has 2 brooders (aka small critter cages) of chicks. I should have planned this out better. Maybe I should have moved the Brinsea to the dining room table. Is it too late to quick unplug it and move it???

Humidity holding well in the Hovabator.

Snow on the White Tanks out by Bob's this morning. It's still 44 out there so no worries about it freezing.
Silly weathermen.

I owe, I owe, so off to work I go.

This too is my bookmark in the thread.

I'll try to catch up this evening.

Day 19! 54 hours to major peeping and chirping!

Could it be your GFI outlet just needs reset?? Just a thought. My dishwasher and garbage disposal are on the same line as the only GFI outlet in my kitchen. When something goes out I can usually get it back on by pushing the little reset button on the outlet that is by our sink. Try it maybe it will work
