Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

If my aircells are normal and fairly large, I'll let my FBCMs go at normal 'confinement' humidity (50-80%). If the cells are small, I let them go without any augmentation at all- as low it can go. It's humid here most of the year (70+%) so I sand FBCM shells to promote evaporation if they are particularly dark or if they are shipped. I know there's an equally fervent camp that insists extra humidity is best for dark eggs, but my experience has convinced me that they evaporate poorly due to the dark coating on the eggs.

If you have the ability to hatch separately, go for it, if not, I'm usually happy hatching somewhere between 50&80% and it seems to work out. If the air cells are extremely small, you need to go dry, though, for good results.

Bob's Henhouse :

Ok, how about a contest I'd have a shot at. Ding-a-ling with the most chickens still participating in a hatch even though they have no earthly reason to.

Maybe the prize could be counseling?

I am, of course, just kidding.

oooh, but the competition is fierce for that title.

Got over the pass and in to work. I think the military needs to spend lots more moola on Dugway so they can buy salt (or what ever the mix is when it is below freezing) for their roads. The only real place that I thought we might slide was once we got on post. Figures.

It is a balmy 17 degrees on Dugway right now. At least it stayed above 0 degrees over the pass. Not that 4 degrees is much over.

Staying busy tomorrow is going to be easy for me. We are supposed to go skiing. Hopefully my boots will get delivered today. Silly FedEx guy wouldn't deliver yesterday since they hadn't plowed our road yet. Well today the roads are plowed, our driveway is plowed and I made sure the walkway to the front door was shoveled. Have I mentioned how much I miss AZ yet today!

I think that Linda is in the front of that pack! She might not have the most chickens but I think she is trying to squeeze the most into the smallest yard!

Being tempted to try this stuff because I can't sleep for poop, and I am a research kind of a gal - I found this information:

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-suppl...veIngredientId=794&activeIngredientName=5-HTP

Reliable source, and boy am I glad I DID find it!!!

Everybody at work is all in a tizzy over the Mega lottery rolling over again, so there's a pool now, into which I "donated" five bucks, too. Don't usually participate, but didn't want to appear as churlish as I actually feel.

I received 9 shipped Marans eggs yesterday. Gonna set them tonight. Hoping for another order to arrive today, which I might set with 'em, despite the short "rest" time. Thinking about which 'bator to use.

Need more coffee.

Had to PUSH the sheep out of my way at the front door this morning. Treats are for the poultry, c'mon! Couldn't find my gloves, so that chain link drive gate was very' cold to unchain and open.

Wah wah wah. Off to fill my BYC coffee mug.
