Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

So far I still have nothing.

I'm beginning to get worried now.

Gonna have to remember that next time.

So I guess I'll snatch them out of the cartons. I gotta get at least a chick out of all this.

It will be fine. I have had them hatch without a problem.

Thank you.

I've got 9 eggs (out of 21 set at lockdown) left in the bator. Two are taking the longest time to finish zipping, 2 are pipped correctly (including the turken egg I pulled out of the fridge like 30 minutes before the start of incubation), and 1 is pipped incorrectly. 4 appear to not be pipped.

All the shipped BLRWs though are nasty coming out of the shells. Is that because they're older, or shipped? Like I have one thats name is pigpen who has nasty goo dried all over him or her and pieces of shell still stick to it.

Every one of my backyard chicks come out fine so it's not the humidity.

Thanks for the tips! I had a bad hatch the first time I used egg cartons, and I swore I would never do it again. Then, many hatches later, I did it again and was successful. Now I use both ways, and find the outcome about the same really.

Please don't kill them yet. I've had eggs hatch on day 25 because of the temp. Give them until Monday, please.

Oh, we are leaving them as is until something happens; hatch or stink.

OH I'm sorry I misunderstood you.

I'm so glad to hear that.

You haven't read the thread! (I know, it's like impossible isn't it?)

Yes and "HE" is beautiful & HUGE!

Seriously I did. . . At least, I thought I read far back enough. This thread is getting HUGE, FAST!

That's great! So I'm guessing he hatched quite a while ago. . . Have pics? Can you tell yet if he is blue or normal wheaten? They're tricky, I've had a blue wheaten hatch out that I swear was a normal wheaten; turns out he was just really dark blue.

So now that things have calmed down a little, and I'm the majority of the way through my first hatch.......I'm wondering what 'normal' new hatch looks like! I'm not even sure what you all mean by looking 'sticky' or too wet or shrink-wrapped.

None of my chicks (so far) looked at all 'shrink-wrapped' or had much 'stuff' stuck to them, but do seem to not dry as fluffy as what I expected. They look a little bit like they were 'moussed' and dried with that in them. So does anyonw want to post pics of normal vs abnormal newly hatched chicks? For educational purposes for us newbies, of course!!

Hope everyone's hatch isprogressing well. Keeping my fingers crossed for all the new little arrivals. I've had 2 hatch today so far - none even close to midnight! LOL

Also wanted to say I am so glad for our daily dose of STEVE!!! Helps keep us all positive. Hope your chicks are doing ok with all your difficulties.
