Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

The hatch rate is easier to get 100% with a few eggs. with 20 eggs its a little harder to get 100% with 100 eggs its very very hard to get 100% hatch rate and the more eggs the harder it gets...

so by limiting the hatch rate to 20-25 eggs minimum it levels the % a bit more.

when I hatch 1-10 eggs I normally get all to hatch or maybe lose 1 egg in the batch. when I hatch a full 40 I always have a couple that don't hatch.

Good eggs and a good incubator should produce an 80% hatch rate. Even with 100 eggs. Shipping the eggs lowers the hatchability along with a few other factors.

If you want to get technical there should be a seperate contest for shipped eggs as well.

Ok, I peeled off a tiny bit of membrane so I could see the chicky better. He's much more vocal and active now. But I saw a teensy bit of yellow so I didn't do anything else. It appears to be a a bit of yolk on him. I can't tell where his stinking head is to be able to make it so he can breathe better but now that I've seen some yellow(hopefully not my imagination) I'm scared to do anything else. Ok, going to keep an eye and hopefully he'll make it!

I still have 2 eggs in the bator. One of them was moving earlier, but has been quiet this afternoon. Bad feeling. Will hold out till tomorrow before throw in the towel.

It's just all for fun! No one HAS to enter .... all for fun, that's all.

I am just glad it all got cleared up. I never enter the contests. I just like to hatch babes. Ken wants an Emu. Now I need to find an egg. Would it fit in the Brinsea Eco 20???

I'm sure there are other contests as well. I just can't afford to enter that one.
