Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Oh my goodness. It has taken me almost an hour just to catch up from when I went to bed last night. Woke up to cheeping at about 3am

I have a lav orp baby in the bator! So happy one of them has made it. Still have four more eggs in the bator. The chick that was shrink wrapped yesterday is still doing good. Cheered the lav orp out of its egg really well. Hoping that one other of the three lav orp eggs hatches but I think that I will just have to be happy with four chicks. Not gonna give up yet though. Thanks for the suggestion Mahonri for upping the temp. I increased a 1/2 degree and maybe that got me the lav orp.

I'm going to have to find my hair dryer today. I have 4 chicks still in the bator and they are sticky. Wonder why that happened? None of the other's were like that so I'll wash them off and dry them. The one what didn''t look so good is still doing ok. I can't believe it.

I need to corect that, it died this morning.

Good morning SCG! Yeah I am glad I helped the stuck chick too. When I didn't get any blood and saw that the yolk was fully absorbed I felt like I had done the right thing. I was worried for a bit after helping because the poor chick just laid there for a long time but it was probably exhausted from trying to get out of the shell. I am going to move the two still in the bator this morning to the brooder before I go to work and just let the bator keep working. If I don't have any more chicks when I get home I will probably candle the four left to see if there is any hope for them.

I just took the two out of the bator to move them to the brooder. Decided to candle the four left that have not pipped. Candled the last green egg and I am pretty sure it is a quitter. Picked up one of the lav orp eggs and it started cheeping, put it right back without candling. Picked up a second lav orp egg and it started peeping put it right back as well. The third lav orp egg did not cheep so I candled it. It has a pretty big air cell so it might not be still viable but I put it back in the bator as well. Hoping to come home to two more chicks this afternoon!
