I actually did put a thin layer of Neosporin on it this morning, especially right under the vent. I think "gaping, oozing hole" pretty much describes it! It was born like that, I saw it the minute it flipped out of its egg, and I did not expect it to survive the first night after seeing that, but I did not open the bator because I figured the perfect heat and humidity would be good for it (and the other unhatched eggs).
I hope no one feels that I have hijacked this thread. If so let me know, and I will go over to the emergencies section. This is not even a new years chick, my NY eggs did not make it, these are from eggs that arrived 2 days after the 11th set date.
It just kinda seems that this is a natural progression from hatching.

If you could post some pictures that would be great. However... my chicken mantra is to keep nursing them until THEY give up. Makes me think with this one something's wrong with the way the yolk absorbed, but pictures would be good. I'd keep cleaning it best you can a few times a day and putting neosporin on it. Definitely separate it from the other chicks so no one can peck at it. Keep your chickie warm of course and put some sugar in their water so they have some easy fast calories.
