Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

We are getting a record high tomorrow! That means I race around at 11am like an idiot taking blankets off horses, seeing all have extra water, setting up shade . . . . . spring is the hardest transition on the animals after a cold winter . . . and no shady trees to hide under yet like late spring. Ahhhhh, the fun of farm animals.

Yes, I know what you mean. Spring is such a fun time of year if you have horses that have been clipped. Put the blankets on in the morning, capture the horses midmorning and remove the blankets. Remove the "blanket" of mud in the evening so that you can put the stable blanket on in the stall at night. My horses are shedding like snowstorms right now so Spring must be arriving shortly. Today's high is 66 and I think I will skip blankets altogether

I have a 'special' cat. Weasel is 31# of solid muscle and fur, and he thinks he's a dog. I call the dogs in and he trots in with the other 2. He is quite singular.

Sorry about the Laks. I used to have Golden Laks, but I sold them. They are very pretty!

Oh My!

He is awesome! We have two cats and we teasingly say the male (Alexander the Great) is "flabulous" as he is getting to be quite large. Or, I did think that he was until I saw your Weasel! Weasel is TRULY a FLABULOUS KITTY! And I do mean that in a totally complimentary way. I've always wanted to have a 30# cat like the one Harry Dresden has (Mister) in the Jim Butcher books.

WOW... what a GORGEOUS GIRL! Real eye candy!

Thanks Mahonri! That's Amber and she is a "project" bird. She has kind of an interesting lineage - her sire is a Salmon Faverolles rooster that tends to produce a lot of red chicks. I am using one of his sons to work on a Mahogany Faverolles line. The hen that she is out of is 1/2 Faverolles and 1/2 feral chicken. I have a friend that breeds Favs in Florida and there is a flock of feral chickens that hang around where he lives. They lay very pretty blue eggs and look a little like OEG chickens. Anyway, just for kicks, he crossed the hens with some of his roosters and sent me some of the eggs. Here is the hen I hatched from those eggs - mom of Amber:

I also have a nice cockerel (Tobasco, full sibling to Amber) that is red with blue underfluff.

Anyway, I hope to create Faverolles pullets that consistently have Amber's coloring and cockerels that consistently have Tobasco's coloring . . . in a few years . . . maybe. Whether I'm successful or not, it will be fun to try!

WOW that Tobasco is a pretty boy.

Well dsqard, I hope it warms up and DS is on his way north. He left at about 5:45 so I am hoping he makes it to Provo by 4PM without difficulty, the only place I really worry about the drive is Highway 20 between Panguitch and I-15. I think the rest of the roads should be plowed, salted and sanded..... I HOPE.

My mid back has been killing me. Didn't get much sleep and the internet quit working last night, so I couldn't use my laptop to pass the time.
I'm going to try and get some sleep. I've got to go to The Feed Barn and get some feed and pine shavings sometime today.

Have a great day everybody.

I don't think folks on here realize how unique snow is in the central valley there.
