catching up on this thread is hard work. i finally finished the 300+ posts that had accumulated sometime this weekend. and i still have 130 pages to read from when i was gone last week. i went and bought a netbook to carry around the house so i could catch up on byc business, LOL

i finally took the heat lamp away from my valentines hatch chicks. they're 5 weeks and fully feathered, plus its been warm here in AZ and they've been sleeping on top of the box instead of inside it. but today it has been rainy and cold, they dont seem to be complaining, they are all in the box again, with no lamp... i wonder if they will get a chill. should i worry about them? there are 17, i'm trying to convince myself they can generate enough heat on their own... ??

I took my ecoglow away from my valentine's hatch chicks yesterday as well. I'm in upstate NY, so I bet yours will be fine. :)

Yes its 420 am here on the east coast...and why am I up? Not because i'm up procrastining from cleaning like usual...nope I went to bed at 830 after last nights very long night. And tonight before we went to bed, DS got some benedryl and tylenol. Fell asleep like a champ. Then he started waking up at midnight every 15-20 minutes again! Finally a little before 3 we woke up and I took his temp...104. So more tylenol and juice and lots of cuddling. I'm tired.

BUT..its a good thing. I finally bumped up my temp in the LG yesterday evening because it was at 98...woke up with DS and it was 103! So its a good thing he woke me up.

Someone on here said all three wells were filled and it was only 20% humidity....have you calibrated your hygrometer because all three wells filled on my LG is usually enough to bring to 60% humidity. You don't want to drown your eggs!

I never toss until day 10 or the eggs weep now weeping eggs are not a good thing though common with shipped eggs...looks like amber drops stuck on your egg I get rid of those ASAP and sniff if it doesn't smell good you need to find the bad egg . Since I do many dark eggs I've been known to leave them until lock down once I tossed perfectly fine eggs on day 10 because I didn't see anything

I thought.

Thanks. This helps a lot. So this gives me 3 more days until I may have to make a decision lol. I think this will be my least favorite part, the waiting ahh... not that bad. Trying to decide if I should throw out an egg.... the sky is falling.

Oh and before I forget.... I had to set most of my eggs early (11th) and have a couple of eggs that went in later (up to the 17th) I signed up etc and posted my pic of my eggs but I didn't know I needed to remember what post it was... so I hope its alright if I "do-over" and post it again so I can remember lol.

I have 45 eggs in the bator.

40 of them are mystery mutts.
The 5 darker bantam eggs are from my flock. Could easily be mutts just as well... but I'll at least know what the mixes may or may not be lol.

Last year I incubated a lot of pheasant eggs, and they were so dense, I really couldn't candle. I never took one out, and never had one explode. Maybe beginners luck.

I am an amateur candler and not very good at it, and have read several times where people thought an egg wasn't doing anything and tossed it, only to realize (too late) that it had a growing/live chick in it. So my rule is "Unless I am 100% positive / or it is weeping or STINKS", I'm leaving it in. I may change my rule the first time I have an egg explode! LOL The more experienced hatchers may disagree with my philosophy, but I would feel horrible if I tossed a live egg.

That reminds me. in the early pages you posted a pic you took of a lighthouse and I was going to ask if you would mind sharing that picture. It was so pretty I wanted to frame it and hang it in my house.

Wow... I posted a color and a B&W:

Sorry SCG I just couldn't resist

I took mine's heat away about 10 days ago. Yours will be FINE.

x2. I took one out a few hatches ago that I thought was a blood ring. It wasn't (I eggtopsy). So I leave them in unless I'm sure now or they stink/weep. Never had anything explode.
