Finally made time to candle last night, only had to throw out 7 bad ones, which would leave me with 41 if my slippery hands hadn't dropped one that was developed,

Mahonri, you can get the police scanner channels on an ap for Android or iphone, and often also on the web in streaming. I have it on my phone for weird stuff, too. I am toooo curious!

We have moved into the single digits now, only

days until hatch day!!! Now is the time to make sure you have everything you need and that your brooder is in working order for your newly hatched chicks.

OMG!! I'm not ready!!!! Ihave been so busy talking to the USPS even my dishes are not done. NOt a clean plate in the place, ANd last clean spoon went in kids lunches. I hate doing dishes, but I hate having no clean dishes!!!!

I hear a dog barking and it's not one of mine . . . .

I hate when the purchasing agent is left out of the loop!!! No Coffee = Disaster!!

OK here's my candeling report. I set 47 barnyard mixed eggs from a friend's chickens and 6 of my little pullet eggs from my marans (which I didn't expect to hatch because they are brand new layers). All 47 of the barnyard mix eggs were clear. It looks like my friend has some fertility issues with her old rooster. Which is too bad cause I've hatched her eggs before and this roo makes very nicely colored and sweet birds.

But on the up side now you know someone you can get to take a rooster or 2!

ok an update on my broody today she moved to another nest guess because when she got up to eat and poo and drink a hen jumped in to lay well now there are 12 extra eggs under her and i am not sure which are the ones she started with and the new ones from today so we marked all 24 eggs under her then moved her back to the right box she is a silver laced something she has feathered feet and looks like a small round ball someone had a pic of one on here a few days ago i think a cohrin hope i spelled that right got her at teh TSC last year is that to many eggs under her will she be able to turn that many not sure if they were fertile i have a bantam EE rooster and all my hens are LF so not sure if he was able to do his job today i saw him trying but my hen just threw him off her back lol was funny to watch him flip over and land on his back.

24 eggs is an awful lot to leave under one hen. Some of them are bound to be uncovered and too cold, and as she changes them around they may all be affected by uneven warming.
