Mahonri's First Annual New Year's Day Hatch/Jan 2010

I think I am going to set within a few days of you...I'll let you know for sure, but it will be my first hatch so it's just going to be a "practice" hatch and I will probably starting warming the bator this weekend to get it figured out since I'm new... I may set monday or tuesday

I think I want to break out the ole hatcher again too. I may just do that. But the only thing that is stopping me is: where am I going to keep these little guys thoughout the winter? I don't want to have to keep them in the house so I may just keep them in my brooder box outside. Would this be too risky when they are so little?

Namble,
That was my concern too, esp being here in PA where it gets into the teens over night in feb/march without any difficulty. However, I was encouraged to go for it som I'm going too. I have a friend who will take them and keep them in her coop (which is really just a shed) if I feel mine is too cold for them, and I plan on keeping them in the house for a cpl of weeks and then taking them out to the shed with a heat lamp when they get too messy in the house. I'm hoping between 1-2 heat lamps in a shed and eachother will be enough to keep them warm until at least 6 weeks when I will probably have to put them out in the unheated barn with the rest of my girls d/t space limitations. I was encoraged to go for it and I am. I figure if it doesn't work out it will be sad, but I'll know what the limits are then. Good luck to you!

I think I am going to hatch some as soon as I convert my mini coop into a brooder. It should work out perfectly so that I can stick the lil ones in there as soon as they hatch. And its outside so I can avoid the whole inside the house brooder deal. I probably won't be able to make it for new years though

I keep my chick in a cardboard box in the garage and a heat lamp last year. I know I am further south that you are. It will be fun for us all to have New Year chicks. I am still working on building my incubator. I am getting down to the time I need to be finished. So the goal is nearer in site. lets make it happen.

Should be fun. I'm getting the bator out Saturday and I'm going to start running it Sunday... Eggs should arrive on Tues -Thurs I hope that by Thursday I'l have it up to temp and the eggs will go in late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

Murphy's law of hatching: When you get the incubator and turner out to set it up, the electrical cords are missing!!!

How long would it take for me to get a new Brinsea to my house...
ARGG!!!

Where could I order the electric adapters for the bator and the turner so that they would arrive by Friday!!!

GQF is closed till Monday morning and I'm BUSY from 5AM to NOON on Monday. They say most orders take 5 days to ship... WHY DIDN'T I GET THE BATOR OUT OF THE SHED SOONER???

We've hunted high and low and can't find them.

Anyone AZ have the adapters that I could borrow till new ones arrive???? I have a Genesis 1588 and the 1611 turner....
