Ah, a fellow zooie! I worked as a zoologist in Gainesville, FL for 5 years. I miss it. Now I do wildlife rehabilitation from time to time. I'm currently rehabbing a red squirrel. As eerie as it is I sort of like it.![]()
I remember when I worked at a zoo in the Poconos of Pennsylvania how great it was when the three wolves we had started howling. We heard them mostly in the winter since it would be dark by the time we left at 5. The mountain lions and African lion were also cool to listen to when they got going. Granted the sounds would give you goosebumps but it was still a great experience. The zoo itself sucked but the animals were great.

Pictures might help to determine if something else is going on. But if she is otherwise acting normal than I would think she is just molts differently than the other three. I know my horses shed out differently from one another in the spring. The mustang grows a thicker coat that sheds quickly. One of the Iceys gets a really thick coat that comes out easily. The other Icey gets a longer thick coat that comes out in clumps and takes what seems like forever to completely shed.I have four girls that were born in May of 2012. Three of them look just fine although I suspect they may be having a slow molt. The fourth girl looks wretched although all her daily activities are the same so I am assuming this is a normal molt. Is it usual for chicks the same age to molt so differently? Should I expect the others to molt noticeably before winter?
