Showers are open here in Fairfield!

Only damage here was a tree across the driveway, plus damage to my attitude, as I am still miffed over using up a "snow day" for this event. It's unusual for us to not lose power. I'm so glad those hoop houses did not fly away! I hope everyone is back on the grid soon.

only lost power here for a half hr last night then this morning it was out from around 10 till 10mins of 2 a tree fell on a line up the road from here after the storm is over lol

I'm not from Maine, but nearby in Vermont. We get some really harsh winters here. I can count on some nights coming in at 20 below. I do not insulate my coop. It has great ventilation and I use a thick layer of bedding. This will be the 3rd year I've had my chickens and they have all fared very well each winter. When I know that we are going to hit our peak of coldness (between -20 and -30 usually 1st week of February) I use a heat lamp during the night. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I feel a little better about it. I usually only use for a few days each winter - less than 5.

we finally have power back on!!!!yeah!!!!! can I say that again? in the storm we lost our furnace, it some how flooded it's self. so i figured I can't do anything at home and i heard the windsor fair had power so off i went. helped out in the poultry barn. lots of nice birds and tomorrow the sale birds will come in if anyone is looking to buy. I don't remember if I saw who won BIS but there are some really nice quality birds there so if you're in the area, stop by .

yes the people with birds in the show sell them. they did not have any birds listed for sale today so even tomorrow night, I'd suspect there would be some left. they will have to bring in the birds tomorrow morning and there was probably 10? open cages. I also hear that some people take home their show birds and replace them with sale birds.

We lost power for 23 hours. Went out Sunday at 11:00 am and was restored around 10:30 am on Monday. Kept the chickens locked in the coop the whole time, I thought it would be tough on them being locked in that long but they all got along just fine. I still plan to add on to the coop before winter gets here. Our small coop is working out great for Momma and the 3 chicks, by the way 2 are pullets and 1 rooster. I made many trips out to the coops in the wild winds Sunday. LOL

I have a few birds I am offering up for sale. 1 black with red silkie cockeral 4 months old, 1 black and 1 white silkie- 8 weeks old age range, 2 free wyandotte cockerals (not 100% sure they are cockerals but slight red to faces) 8-12 weeks old, 1 pet quality white wyandotte (will be a large hen with very nice shape), 1 black laced orpington pullet 10? weeks.
pm me if interested. I can deliver to windsor fair on saturday.
**update**
orp and silkie cockeral sold. adding citrus silkie hen for sale- very pale buffish. she listed in Byc auction over 8 weeks section. she is at the windsor fair for purchase there.
