Maine

We might have a baby today-certainly by tomorrow. But the human kind. Granddaughter #5 on her way.

hard to believe with this weather, the swaps have started . the first one for Augusta is March 29th. fingers crossed it warms up! I have plenty to sell I just need to figure who.

I'd like to think it's a silkie, but it seems too big--and I would have expected a blue egg from her.
Hi Jazor, My silkie lays a small tannish egg.

I know, I have to stay away from Bangor TSC, because there MAY be little "fuzzy butts" there. Went there yesterday & the signs were up & brooders were ALMOST ready.
I know, dowgirl71! I went to Augusta TSC on Saturday and saw the brooders & lights. I said to one of the salespeople, "Oh no, you have chicks!" He said, "Nope, next week."

Congrats suzMEchicks!

So this was the conversation at my house Saturday night....
DH--What is Murray McMurray? And why did you spend $120 there? What did you buy?

Me--It's a hatchery and I bought chickens.

DH--YOU BOUGHT $120 WORTH OF CHICKENS??!!

Me--Well, half of them are my sister's.

DH--I thought you said we didn't need anymore chickens.

Me--I don't ever remember saying that.

DH--You said you were thinking about getting rid of the RIR's.

Me--Well, I'll need to replace them.

DH--How many did you get? How many did your sister get?

Me--8 & 6

DH--YOU SPENT $120 ON 14 CHICKENS?

Me--Well, we got meat birds too.

DH--Meat birds? The kind you kill?

Me--Well, yuh, that's the idea!

He just shook his head.

Looks like shes taking her time!
Will this be your 5th granddaughter from one family, or are they spread between families? I hope you don't have to wait too long!

Are swaps generally kid-friendly? Well-behaved, calm children, of course :)

Hey all, just curious... My wife and I travel to Maine each summer from Nova Scotia and we usually stay for 10 days or so. Our trips are usually in July and I'm wondering if there are any poultry shows during that month ? I wouldn't mind attending just for the fun of it :)

Coop chick: Re: hubby's reaction. I think mine has given up. He doesn't even flinch any more when I tell him what I have planned.

I am so very not impressed with the weather we've had as the winter winds down to an eventual spring. I have a feeling that this will be one of these years where we have wicked cold and 2 feet of snow one week followed by blooming trilliums and their companions: the blood sucking black flies, the next!

Looks like next week's weather will be a good egg gathering week!!!!
