Looks like I wasnt so lucky after all in my attempt to get my little roos a home. The guy that was supposed to come never showed. So if anyone is interested in a couple of sweet little EE roos, let me know!

You know, the club here in Farmington has a list of members that wanted to be testers and get this, they will not train anyone until they get the old kits back. Don and everyone including me have been on their arse's to pump up testers in Maine. Its a frustrating ordeal. Keep at him and the others in the state environment, Keep at them to get Maine testers that WANT TO TEST

I had a "recent" list of testers and still, most of them will not answer yes, most of them became testers for themselves, with no way to get the test kits back. (sorry about my attitude, just that it has frustrated us for so long).

If anyone wants a sweet rooster, I have a White/blue splash Polish that is free to a good home (regardless to eating or enjoying) I also have 1 mille fleur cockerel, from show stock, not show quality (black around neck) but he is no bigger then a minute, $10. Must be able to pick up.

maybe I should just go down and ask him to train me, and then I will be in. He did say that bill morrison has been going out and training people in areas that have no testers so that is very interesting.

Awesome, go and get things rolling, I'm glad because a few years ago Bill kept mentioning something about write Don, get him interested. Well, you and I know both, politics and such!!! But, they are so good in that branch of the government that they will call you, use email and give you numbers of those you need to contact. Its nice to be treated like a human when you call. All are very personal...You go Hoppy get that training!!

you can google it. if they come up postitive (and no birds in maine have) they would do further testing, actual blood test sample sent to the lab. if your birds had typhoid, they probably would be sick and dying. the reason we want all the birds tested for the shows. so when a bird comes in, we know the birds at home were "negative for typhoid, as well as this one" rather then someone bring a bird in that from a sick flock and now you just brought that disease home with you as did 100 other people, that would spread disease like wild fire same as if you sold eggs, it would affect birds hatched from those eggs and any chickens those hatchlings came in contact with. my understanding is that if a flock tests positive, all flocks within a certain radius will also be quaranined. so if your birds are not tested, they will be tested or the state will take them if you refuse testing. I know, none of us want to have our birds taken but we also don't want to have sick birds making all other birds sick. Maine used to be heavy in poultry. I don't remember if I read we were meat birds or egg layers but we were in the top 10 for chicken products.
the test is done on a yearly basis. the first test is 100% of your flock. After that, it's a percentage of your flock and only birds over a certain age need to be tested. the ideal time to do the test the first time, is when your numbers are low ie when all your extra birds are gone.
there's more to it but this give you the gist of it.
