Maine

Just wanted to put it out there that this spring I'm on the lookout for buff orpington, lavender orpington, light, dark, and buff brahma, bantam bbs cochin, and d'uccle(of any color) chicks. I'll have EE and EExcochin chicks starting the end of February, and a slew of mix-breeds after that. If anyone's interested I'm happy to talk trades and/or prices(for your birds or mine).

Hey everyone! I have a Maine weather question for you all. We have been acclimating our November chicks to move outside in the spring. Their big coop is ready, we don’t plan to use any supplemental heat. Right now they’re in the garage. They have the EcoGlow in the garage coop at night but I don’t think they get under it any more.

like I mentioned, we planned to send them outside in the spring, but our winter has been so mild lately I wonder if we can move them out sooner. We are in the greater Portland area and today it’s nearly 60f and raining. They are 10 weeks old now and fully feathered. We have 4 hens and the coop is draft free and well ventilated. I don’t mind keeping them in til March or April, but I wonder if they won’t get too cramped in the little coop we have in there for them.

what do you guys think? What would you do?

They ought to be okay. Keep them out in the new coop for as long as you can and watch for severe huddling.
As for me, I'd probably keep them inside but that's just because I'm overprotective to a fault...

Hi everyone- I have a animal related but not directly chicken related (chicken-adjacent? 😂) question for you all!

we are ready for a new dog. We lost our beloved Luna in November 2019 very suddenly and none of us had the heart to bring a new dog into the family this past year. Well, time heals as the saying goes, and the kids are begging for a dog. I think we are almost there.

I know some breeds are better than others with chickens, like working dogs like Great Pyrenees. Weare thinking a Lab is the best fit for our family, though. And there are a lot more lab breeders around. Does anyone with a lab and chickens have tips for making it work? Not sure if we are going to try and get a puppy or a retired breeding mama; the wait lists are very long for both. Everyone wants a COVID buddy.

open to adopting from a shelter but I’m nervous about it - our previous dog was a shelter dog and we got so lucky with her personality. But with two little kids, two older cats, and now a flock of chickens I’m not sure the risk of integrating an older shelter dog will work for us, and the list for a shelter puppy is even longer than breeders!

Any recommendations for Maine Lab breeders is most welcome too 😉

We are looking for EEs! Do you sex, by any chance? We can’t have roosters in my town.
