AWwww! Are those leghorn chicks?

superchem, they were leghorn eggs from my flock i have the leghorn rooster i got from you and a white rock roostrer so either one could be the father i guess. also this broody hatched a 3rd chick last nite that is white and it came from a brown egg either a golden comet egg or a rhode island red egg.

Uh-oh.
Things have gone bad here. Our sick hen that we treated with ivermectin is not dead, but she is not improving yet, either. We just continue with the usual force-feeding tiny amounts, moving her in each night.
Today I noticed another hen, sitting hunched on the ground, eyes closed, head drooping. This one will get up and run away, and occasionally acts normal, but much of the day she is hunched.
I am reading about ulcerative enteritis, cholera, avian flu and other horrible diseases.
If any more start going down, I will be tempted to take one to a vet for a diagnosis so I know if I have to cull the whole flock, or just find the right drug.
It is frustrating not knowing what to do!

Well whatever they are they're super cute and are sure to be great layers for you.

Got the hoophouse halfway done on our day off today.



We will be covering it with a few layers of chicken wire, weaving it together then tarping it with a thick tarp that we can roll up during hot days.

It's a grow out pen for the extra roos that I hatched earlier this year. Last year I threw the extra "dinner" roosters in the main coop and run, and it drove my girls nuts. I felt so bad for them with 10 roosters trying to mate them. And adding possibly some turkeys if the ones I have in the bator hatch (looks like maybe 2 at this point) or if someone near here is getting Bucksfield turkeys.

Wow! You got a lot done! Ours hasn't progressed too much since the last photo. The ends are getting doors and hardware cloth now, but nothing on the sides yet. My diseased birds only other symptom (other than listless, eyes closed, won't eat) is bright green watery diarrhea (which is in very small quantity, since they won't eat). Sometimes she gapes, but I hear gapeworm is pretty rare ( and wouldn't Ivermectin take care that?) I hope things are not so bad. I can just picture 10 hens in cages on my dining room table, all being force-fed and carried in and out each day.

I think I saw on the skowhegan swap thread that polly C is going there this weekend, maybe she would bring them with her, skowhegan is pretty close and yes, all birds chicks or otherwise should be quarantined away from your other birds.

I'd love 3 of these but that's a 90 minute drive each way from me. Anyone from the Disgusta/Waterville area getting some? Combine orders, and I'll pay for gas/mileage?

I am going to arrange to pick up some up, some chicks, I am in Monmouth and would be happy to pick some eggs or chicks up for you. I can't incubate the eggs here unless I pop them under my broody duck, but I could hold the chicks with mine til you come get them.
