There is a farm in windsor that does free range heritage breeds- Emma's family farm. That might be a bit far for you though. There are also free range, but not heritage breed in New Sharon- I think it's called the Turkey Farm. I used to drive by it on my way to class.
You can't miss The Turkey Farm - it's just off Rt 2 heading towards Augusta on Rt 27- on the left you will see hundreds of white turkeys!!!!

This 3 month old blue orpington rooster needs a home asap.He is so friendly and comes from my own stock.I have to many and he has untill Thursday to find a home.He is free!

I think most of my posts start with "should I be worried?".... Here is one more!

2 of my EE's started laying- and then stopped. It's been 4 day since either laid an egg. They are both acting completely fine- is this normal?

Could be the loss of daylight. Mine are laying much and I havent had any today at all. Gotta get a light hung up in the coop and hopefully production will increase a little!

I had a fake egg in the nest box, but took it out because one of them was sitting on it...a lot. she would go in and sit, and move the egg around under her... others have been laying the the box. I have looked around for eggs- under the shed, in the woods....and I have not found anything yet! I suppose I should look harder...but, also I have not heard egg songs from them either- I suppose maybe they do it when I'm not here, but....

Naughty chickens- the shed door blew open the other day, and then all went in and pecked a hole in the un opened bag of scratch....

I'd put the egg back in. Some of the girls "practice" on it - and some will go broody on it. And that's ok. I have 3 girls sitting on golf balls right now, happy as can be. They'll get up in about 4-5 weeks. I'd say you probably have chickens laying and hiding the eggs somewhere. The fake egg shows them it's a "safe" spot to lay. If they laid in it yesterday and the egg is gone today, they know it's not "safe" and will seek another place to lay.

At least, that's what I think the chicken is thinking.

my new layers are off and on for the first month then they start in as long as I suppliment light this time of yr.

I have had the hardest time with this website recently! I havent been able to post, message anything. I type something in the box, hit submit and a message pops up telling me I need to enter something to submit. SOOOO frustrating!!!

Hubs and I decided to try using google chrome instead of explorer and Eureeka! I can post again!

Anyway, I have a Phoenix roo that is going to be dinner very soon if he doesnt find a new home. He's hatchery stock and a nice looking fellow, really great with the ladies and would do well with him own flock. However, he has gotten aggressive with the younger kids here and that is unacceptable. He's fine with adults and older kids, but has taken to chasing the younger ones around the yard. I know finding roosters a home is a long shot, particularly aggressive ones, but thought I would offer before we make a meal of him.
