Maine

Congrats on all the new chicks! Our broody just hatched 5 of the 6 fav eggs I gave her. Three are Favs and two are little Fav/AM crosses. I have more Fav eggs in the incubator along with an assortment of eggs I bought from Muddy Hoof Farm in Lubec, 6 assorted Marans, 3 White AM and 3 Favs. That will be it for me until I get some Hedemora eggs. I got my new brooder built, and there is alot of mud around here...yay!
I just ordered supplies for making Pysanky eggs, cant wait!

And what would Pysanky eggs be??

I have a story to share and I hope you are not drinking anything. Last night I was very lazy. I made breakfast for dinner; scrambled eggs, sausages and oj. SO and I sit at the 'head and foot' of the table per custom. I looked down the table at one point and saw the strangest expression on SO's face. He was nearly wringing his hands over the table and he had this suppressed expression that looked a mix of horror and humor or discomfort. Well of course I asked if he was ill? He was not. He got up shortly afterwards and left the table with his meal unfinished and not another word said. That evening, as is our custom, he came in while I was putting our youngest to bed and he said, he is 'all done eating eggs for a while.' He then explained that whilst sitting over dinner, with fork in hand, he came to the realization that fertilized eggs contained sperm from the rooster, thus his struggle to finish the meal. I could not keep from bursting with laughter but the reality of the situation for him was one I had to try to mollify. So I explained that those particular eggs had not been fertile as there was no rooster in that pen. It made him feel a little better but he stated whole heartedly he was in support of a 'just eggs' house but he still would not be eating eggs for a while as he was still obsessing over how many sperms he might have eaten in his lifetime and claimed he may even resort to buying himself eggs from the store just to be sure they are not fertile.
OMG You can imagine, I was dying of laughter and still enjoy this story in a very naughty and deeply enjoyful way. And wanted to mention that our Am eggs are fertile and the duck is now setting a nest.
Trying to catch up here...sorry for all the multi-quotes!

OMG Ash, That is hysterical!!

A wonderful story that will keep on giving laughter for many years to come, no doubt!

So cute about the rooster!! I watched mine give a piece of lettuce to 2 of the chicks. What a good Papa! They may be 5 weeks old but they were still trying to crawl under Janice's wings last night on the roost.

Congrats on all the new hatches! I was a nervous wreck having my broody hatch the eggs. I don't think I could handle an incubator hatch. Now I'm thinking I need more hens/chicks and how to convince DH to extend the run. Hmmmmm......

Neat coloring.

I got a doghouse along with the 10x10 dog fence enclosure. The ducks hated it at first but now they love it. It's a great little duck house.

BF took care of my two internal laying chickens today, and the lame duck. I know it's the right thing to do, but I just feel so bad about it. Hate this part of keeping a farm. Livestock eventually becomes deadstock.
