Maine

After selling some and culling some, I counted my birds today.....61 birds

34 Bantam Cochins and 27 Belgian d'Uccle Booted Bantams.

Many are still young - only ten birds over the age of one year.

Lately it's been hard work with the heat and keeping them safe from the sneaky varmits.....but I still enjoy them!

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch"??????

Or should it be, "Don't count your chickens"

My city friends ask me how many I have, so I feel obligated to count once in a while!

my kids thought it would be fun to count them 2 summers ago when we were raising lots of meaties- over 100 but each winter get down to 14 tops.
after that, i don't count them until it time to determine who will winter over

Okay peeps I need your help. I am adopting a cat from a friend who runs a rescue in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She has a volunteer willing to drive the cat up to the NH border this coming Tuesday. Any ideas where we can meet up that is easy to find and not too far off the interstate? The only place I can think of is the Liquor Store parking lot that is on 95 on the right when one is headed towards the MA line. Not sure exactly how far into NH that is though. There is also the first rest area in Maine just before (I think) you get to the York toll plaza. I also thought about the Newington Mall/Fox Run Mall area but that could get complicated. Maybe the Market Basket lot.

The cat (Butterscotch) was removed from a very abusive situation. The 'owners', in front of their children, kicked the cat repeatedly, sprayed air freshener into his eyes and mouth, allowed the family pit bull to maul him and just for fun put the cat in the oven. As a result Butterscotch has a ruptured ear drum, eye issues and other injuries. Since his rescue he has been neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and a couple other things, given all his vaccinations and treated for his injuries. The rescue is full thanks to the never-ending kitten season and other abandoned animals so Butterscotch was in need of a quiet, cat-friendly home. I couldn't help but offer to take him in.

I love cats. How sweet of you to take this poor cat in. I'm not sure where the best place to meet is, but I'd probably choose the New Hampshire Liquor Store, so I could pick up a couple bottles of wine while I'm there!
Good luck. I hope the cat adapts well to your family.
