that's called chicken fever, welcome to the club.

I had a fever recently, and I think it affected my brain in a strange way. I suddelnly find myself staring at photos of cream Brabanters. The birds with the poofy hairdos! I don't know what will happen this spring.

My husband went to the state sale too. Came home with a couple of laptops. Man what an adventure he had.

I will be going again the next time- what a great deal with 1/2 off. I bought a mountain bike for $12.50

Got our Christmas tree today from the local tree farm. They have so much new growth this year! It was great to see.

I have finally decided on a name for my one-day farm. I will call it Free Loader Farm since I am sure any future animal additions will probably follow the chickens lead and not do a darn thing!!! I would really love a nice egg for breakfast some day!! Grrrrrrrr! And also sob:-(

We also went and got a tree. Its up . . . to the ceiling.

I am supposed to be getting some Brahbanters this spring. There is a woman I know who has had some for a few years. She is sharing. I am not sure I want them but they are unusual so we will try a couple. I like Spitzhaubens and capped breeds but I am rather done with the special needs.

I want to put red and green wreaths on the turkeys and take their photo in front of the red barn. They would be real Christmas Turkeys then!

Let me know what you think of the Brabanters. I wanted some, but not for $75 plus shipping, especially since I don't know if they are productive. What kind of special needs do you associate with the Spitzhaubens and Brabanters?
Now I'm looking at Welsummers and Exchequer Leghorns, and maybe Coronation Sussex for the spring hatch. Or maybe I will just hatch the breeds I own, and get some hatchery birds to add to the flock. That's not my first choice, but DH keeps reminding me that dollar for dollar, our hatchery flock was a great deal. This is true, although I do love hatching mine own, even if shipped eggs are a bad deal overall.

Make sure you forward the turkey photos. Even if it is just a blurry shot of the turkeys running away with the wreath!

I googled the Brahbanters, wow what a unique looking bird.

I've been trying to be reasonable about my chickens but there are sooo many breeds that would lovely to see wandering about my yard. The husband isn't fond of stepping in poo but I think he's getting more tolerant. Occasionally he lets them free range on his own.

He made this comment about no more pets the other day to our daughter and she said "so why does Mom get to have more chickens?"

His reply "Because if I said no more to her before long there would be goats, sheep, a horse, maybe a cow and only God knows how many chickens, geese and ducks. Yeah so, not telling your mother what she can or can't have!"

I thought that a very wise reply and quite true.

Ideally some dark egg layers and blue/green layers are in the future. I love having multiple colors of eggs in the basket. I'm down to just brown and an occasional blue from my bantam.
