I set some ducks last year for New Years hatch. I was insane. I was bringing them from the basement to the second floor daily to the bathroom up there to destroy the tub while I cleaned their brooder, then back down to the brooder while I cleaned the tub. They were also pekins and grew insanely huge quickly. I eventually tossed them outside during the day and brought them in at night and then eventually gave up on that and just left the outside. I was really new to ducks and had no idea how hardy they were. Just a note to you: they're really hardy. Get them out of the house as soon as possible.I must be crazy, I just set call duck eggs.probably in a month I'll be saying why did i do that??? hey, why not???![]()
You're really talented. And I really want to see this weasel.I can't show you what I made first. it was supposed to be a sheep but it turned into a weasel instead![]()
Your welcome coopchick, the 100 watt regular bulbs are getting really hard to find. I so dislike the curly bulbs and find that they are pretty useless for giving off any heat. I dont see any difference in the cost with regular 100 watt bulbs and small amount with 250 watt heat lamps maybe a coulpe dollars,if that. but well worth it. cost on the electric bill goes up here in the cold weather anyways. My guinea is doing good. if you come across 100 watt regular bulbs if you can find them grab em, I was told by some of the hardware stores what they had of that kind was it and wouldn't be getting anymore and couple of places had none at all.
darn quote is not working right
so to reply to coopchick719
I set up a heat lamp in my coop 2 feet from the where the chickens would want to get under it (safely). then see how they are, if they are spread out, it's too warm or if they are huddled right under it, move it just a bit closer but be careful because it can start a fire. I find 2feet is plenty close enough and sometimes mine is set up for the perching birds- 2' above the perch not the floor. if you have floor dwellers, then 2' from the highest bedding, remember, they toss the hay all over and you don't want it to be closer due to fire.
It takes 5 months to make a goat. Now people on the thread are saying to breed her. Sigh.
They should be 8 months/80 lbs to breed. She is 8 months-ish and about 71ish pounds. She didn't want to cooperate on the scale this morning so I got readings between 69 and 73 lbs. She was 65 lbs November 11th.
