I never knew how the egg cartons were labeled with the date, Hoppy. And while everyone else seems to know, I don't have a clue what NLC is.

. Can someone enlighten me?

Natural Living Center. A health food store in Bangor just off Stillwater Ave. I'm sure you have a store similar in your area. They sell bulk grains, anything you might desire for a veggie or organic diet, and health food junk food.... which absolutely cracks me up. The next time I have a few spare mintues to rub together, I'll stop in and scope the situation out.

Hoppy, you must have the luck of the irish

We have a health food store in Farmington, across from the Farmers Union. I'm gonna go LOOK!!

Hatching bantam eggs gets a bit boring for me at times lol

We've got a couple places here to buy fresh local eggs, but I have so many of my own I plan to hatch. Funny that egg production has been picking way up from everyone BUT the breeds I plan to hatch. I tentatively ordered some eggs to have shipped here on February 4th, but I haven't got a confirmation or paid yet, so I am trying not to get too excited about it. Hopefully, it will work out.

What you going to hatch???

Well, if my shipped eggs come through, it is a mix of rare breeds, mostly Marans and Ameraucanas, but it will be a surprise. My own eggs, I will be hatching Basques, lavender Ameraucanas, and various olive eggers. I'm still thinking about getting the Exchequer Leghorn hatching eggs, but I may just pick up a few white layers at the feed store instead, so I don't have quite so many roosters to deal with growing out. And if the mix of rare breeds doesn't pan out or hatch very well, I may order some Welsummer chicks, too. At which point, I will have way too many chickens!

OK, heres my "duh" moment story for you.

Yesterday afternoon I went out to the coop to close up the chickens and check for eggs. I found 2!!! I was tremendously excited because, as many of you will remember, my chickens dont lay eggs. I was dancing a little happy dance and imagining the tiny little 2 egg scramble I would divide amongst the daycare kiddos for breakfast the next day. I slipped them carefully into my pocket, still dancing happily as I walked around to the other side of the coop where I proceded to lean in through a window to throw in a little extra shavings (since they hadnt really gone out through out the day yesterday, they needed something extra). Then I skipped up the little hill to the house, like a happy little school girl, to show my husband my 2 eggs. I reached my hand into my pocket and pulled it out covered in squashed egg!!!!! Genius me leaned right up against the eggs in my pocket while I was adding shavings to the coop!
