Maine

OK, heres my "duh" moment story for you.

Yesterday afternoon I went out to the coop to close up the chickens and check for eggs. I found 2!!! I was tremendously excited because, as many of you will remember, my chickens dont lay eggs. I was dancing a little happy dance and imagining the tiny little 2 egg scramble I would divide amongst the daycare kiddos for breakfast the next day. I slipped them carefully into my pocket, still dancing happily as I walked around to the other side of the coop where I proceded to lean in through a window to throw in a little extra shavings (since they hadnt really gone out through out the day yesterday, they needed something extra). Then I skipped up the little hill to the house, like a happy little school girl, to show my husband my 2 eggs. I reached my hand into my pocket and pulled it out covered in squashed egg!!!!! Genius me leaned right up against the eggs in my pocket while I was adding shavings to the coop!

Oh no Anna!! How disappointing!! I too have chickens who don't lay eggs. I do have a lovely broody girl sitting on 6 mixed eggs from MaineChick! I am very excited to candle these little buggers. Anyone have any advice for a 1st time hatcher?

been there, done that!!!

Pic of the new boy who is more camera shy than me.... Russian Orloff babies here we come.... assuming they all live through my absence this weekend. They are at the mercy of bf who is afraid they will attack him, hates the poop and won't touch the birds. Oh boy.

Enjoy! The mother hen and her babies is such a great sight to watch!

Had four items back ordered so I will get those soon. One was sold out (Fortex Pole Beans).

. The one veggie that I can grow without trouble and one of my favorites. Now I will have to find some elsewhere.

My chickens are back to being on strike. No eggs for about a week. They do seem to love their new cozy shelter. Now if I can convince them to make a mess outside the shelter an not inside we will all be happier. And with the bitterly cold weather coming I am sure they will spend more time sitting together keeping warm than in laying. Don't blame them. I won't be too active either. Hot chocolate, a few Netflix DVDs, a nice fire going in the pellet stove, a warm blanket and a pit bull for extra heat while she snuggles against me will be the perfect way to make it through the cold weather.

Just had to mention some great service from Longhorn in Buxton today. I called this morning to see if they had any round bales in stock. Never gave my name. Was told they would be in by this afternoon. Went over there about 130. Got out of my truck , went in and waited for five minutes while another customer paid for her order. Told the clerk what I wanted and paid for it. Went outside expecting to have to wait for the bale to be loaded in the truck. Nope. It was already in the bed.

. And this is only the second time I've been there with the truck. Granted it was put in so it wouldn't easily roll out but I managed with some muscle, ingenuity and sheer determination to get it out of the truck into the horses' pen.

And I have an interview next week for a possible full-time position at the airport. It is with the same company I currently have a part-time job with just in a different department. I know of at least one other who will also apply but I need the job more so I will think positive thoughts.

I do know Johnny's sells them since I have ordered from them in the past.

But the shipping for just one packet of seeds would be a bit more than I want to spend. If the website is correct it would be $8.15 total. $4.00 of that for the shipping. Johnny's is a great Maine company but a bit on the expensive side which is why I went with Fedco this year.

here's a laugh. normally my dog is with me every day and pines when i'm not home. so today was the 2nd day in a row that I didn't take him with me. I came to hear about his day. he got out a bag of drawings that someone had set aside, pulled them into the living room and peed on them.

I laugh because he's technically not my dog (although he is my shadow) and it was not my stuff he peed on.
(and i didn't have to clean it up since I was not home, the person that owned the drawings and the dog did, lol)
