Three out and three more coming

6 The rule of six is also instituted because they need each other's warmth and company. I realize we give them heat lamps and all that but its better for the bird to have that constant contact and snuggle time.

Bucka- I have also had and heard several times of birds just dropping dead. Its weird for sure but it happens in nature to all species. I have Lavs here but they are with a blue cockerel. What are you hoping to hatch?

Weird day today.

The good news was that the lavender hen that is inside with the sour crop seems to be improving. She is passing some solid stuff, even though she has only had yogurt and olive oil, and her crop has deflated. She doesn't have much of an appetite yet, but I am only offering her the yogurt and scrambled egg right now. Even though she is out of commission, I've managed to gather 3 lavender eggs from the other 2 hens for my hatch.

The bad news, the lavender rooster dropped dead today. He was fine this morning, and cooped up inside today. DH said it looked like he had fallen off the roost or something. Very strange. I'm going to try and hatch my 3 eggs and any others I get in the next few days.
Im so sorry to hear about your rooster but Im glad your hen seems to be doing better... I hope you get a nice roo from one of your eggs not that it will replace the one you lost but to help soften the blow... hope your hen continues to get better

LOL I know. I have one in there who has been pipped with a beak out for a looooong time. I wonder if its going to make it. One more has pipped. Four fuzzies are out and resting and peeping. Gosh, they are loud! No one told me about their gross umbilical poop. And get this
THEY STARTED THIS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING
How much more coordinated could that be!?

Congrats on your hatch! What a thrill it is to see it!!! I can scratch that one off my bucket list... but I'm sure it will be a repeat entry!!

Is anyone planning on having extra ducks or turkeys this year? I would love some ducks for slug control, and a few turkeys would be nice to have too. Will anyone have any Ameraucana Roos?

Congratulations on the hatch, ashandvine! And thank you everyone for the kind thoughts.. My sour crop hen will go on Monistat and kefir starting tomorrow. I am working too late today to start it. Hopefully, the lavender eggs I've set aside are fertile (only 3 so far). I'm going to put them in this weekend along with some Basque eggs and various crosses with my olive egger roo. My prevoius hatch looks like a lot of boys, but I think I got a couple Marans anyway. If the lavenders fail, perhaps I will switch breeds.
