Maine

Hehehe it is cute how all theses SOs have such soft spots for the chickens :)

Kissing them on the head is too precious hahaha.

Here I am trying to play catch up once again. It seems like life just keeps happening to me! This time three weeks walking around on a sprained knee as again, the Drs office would not listen to me saying, I am in severe pain, until the three weeks later when they sent me for an MRI. Anyway, once again recovering and determined, but thinking I will never get caught up on all that I have not done.
Is there a list anywhere of what people are bringing to the swap Saturday. I am looking for a few Ameraucanas, and midget white turkeys, as well as a few banties, mixed breed is fine, just want them cause they like to sit and they are good Mom's.
I broke down and bought an incubator I am going to try my first batch this weekend, Easter Egger eggs. I have some extra easter egger eggs if anyone wants some I can bring them to the swap. I also have a young Embden gander, he'll be a year old mid summer. I would like to sell or swap him, or find him a nice goose, so he will leave his Mama alone.
I had a couple of people on the list offer to put eggs in their incubators for me, Thank You! My Ameraucana hen layed just one egg, then quit, LOL, Thank you kindly for the offer though.
I am excited to see what is at the swap tomorrow and what else I will bring home that I do not really need.
Hoppy, I will bring you a few blown goose eggs to experiment with.
Anyone have an incubator that will handle goose eggs?

We hatched out 23 out of the 24 eggs we put into the incubator!!!!! Here are some of the little ones.. I love the assorted colors.. They are Wyndotte and Orphingtons.. Looking forward to watching them feather in..

Alright, someone needs to ban me from the feed stores! Went to Blue Seal today and picked up their last Orpington pullet as well as 5 SLWs. And got an incubator from TSC. lol

When it comes to selling chicks, if I put an ad on CL would chicks under 8 weeks old still need to be sold in a 6 minimum? Or would I be better off just waiting until they are older to sell extras?

Regarding my post above I caught Spartacus and Sgt Pepper fighting when I got home this afternoon, so looks like Sparty is going to have to be culled unless I can find a home for him. He is a Buff Orp, almost a year old. Great around the kids, pretty docile, I just don't have the space or time to set up a whole new coop and pen for a second flock. If anyone here wants him please PM me! But only if you'd be keeping him. If he's being culled and eaten we can do that on our own. ;) I'm down in Standish, near Limington/Windham/Gorham.

Chicks do not have to be 8 weeks old to sell any amount when you sell from your home, it is only when you take them off your property.

Does anyone have any barred rock pullets that are just hatched or are a few weeks/months old? I am looking for a friend.

Good to know, thank you Polly! We'll probably wait until they're old enough to sex anyway, so we can keep the roos for food, but you never know! :)

Oh yes, but... when you get your cornish x rock from the meat case, haven't you noticed that there's always at least 6 of them lined up in the case????

Can any of you help me figure out what on EARTH is going on with my roosters?? They do live together, but are both pretty docile and seem to get along just fine. They had spots like this last week, which cleared up by itself. Then in the last couple days they look like this... What could it be? None of the hens have spots, just the boys. I have to head to TSC in a bit, so if they have something that can treat this, I'll pick it up. Just not sure what this is or how to fix it!

In other news, despite swearing up and down that I was NOT going to deal with a brooder with a newborn in the house, I just *had* to buy a bunch of chicks at TSC yesterday. They were on sale, I couldn't resist...

Picked up four red pullets, and 8 straight run partridge rocks. The rocks were only $0.50 each!

Everyone seemed to be in perfect health, but one of the red chicks died this morning. Not sure what the heck happened, but at least TSC will replace it.
This almost looks like it could be fowl pox. Dry.
Might want to google it.
I could be wrong but the first roosters eye looks swollen. I've had rooster fights but nothing that looked like this.
