Maine

How DO you spell it anyway? I've always typed americauna, but have no idea which is correct.

I have both Ams and EEs here, makes for fun times! lol That assuming I'm using the correct definition for EE's anyway. For that matter, what would I call my chicks that are an am/orp cross? They have beards, peacombs, and I'm assuming would lay green eggs (hens both lay blue). Would they be EE's, or x/x cross?
Grace you didn't spark anything. Someone in another Maine linked thread came into the thread announcing themselves as a farm proud to be breeding AmerIcaunas. Um, nope.
Like I said, though, education is important in what I do and a big part of having this farm. To answer your question, the best thing you can do, rather than label a bird EE which is also a term that has many problems btw (it can be an unrecognized color, poor quality Am or a mix so its used way too liberally at this point) is to just call them crosses, or say Orp Am cross. That gives folks more information anyway and it shows you know what you are doing or what you are doing it with anyway. This is just my opinion but I think well of it :)
well I look forward to seeing him then and too bad you can't make the spring show.

Oh! How was vacation? Didn't you go to the southwest? I love it there.

Did you bring home any chickens?

I went to Utah.

Dsqard tried to kill me a thousand different ways. I'm resilient.

I did not bring home any fowl but I didn't need to. While I was flying home my turkeys were hatching! My turkeys from Utah! And as soon as I got home my chicks from Ash hatched, as did my duckling from my own stock.

That little cup is perfect for photographing chicks, ash! Very cute.

I'll be waiting for the new breed you develop, echo. I know it is a long-term project, but don't take too long.... I am old!

Cute chicks ash. and SCG, I thought that last picture was painting until I really looked at it- wow!
I've decided I'm planting my corn this week, one way or another. might do it as seedlings if I have to. I've a mini greenhouse (2x2x4) and I'll just squeeze it in there in my soil blocks.
peas and ,lettuce are coming up outside.

The last picture is of Emerald Pools, although I found the rocks much more beautiful than the pools.

Glad you guys enjoyed them and I'm glad I made it home in one piece. I highly suggest Zion National Park.

Cute chicks, Ash.

My last hatch of 2013 ended this morning with the last of the cornish out. 10/12 - not bad for shipped eggs.

My duck may be going broody, and if so, I might let her hatch, but otherwise, despite the 9 broodies in the coop saying otherwise, we're done here.

I am bummed I missed a bunch of you in Bangor this past weekend! I was at the college testing my EMT's on their final National Registry Practical Exam. Are there any other gatherings planned in the Bangor/Ellsworth area?

I pulled out the old truck ladder rack yesterday and it is going to be easier than I thought to make the tractor for the meaties...good news for the Pellepeterson Clan! I will start construction of that gem this weekend...I hope...

I do have a question for you all besides the swaps coming up. My gallon waterer seems to be either leaking or they are having water fights...I filled it this morning, at 1600 it is empty and the chips are soaked in the coop...I filled it, and already it looks like it is leaking. I cannot find a leak, it may be crooked on the blocks...hoping it is that simple. More updates on everything in the woods, it is spring...planted today, corn and peas, made a wee little greenhouse out of some recycled plastic sheeting, now I have more room in the greenhouse!!!

I want to share some babies...

(Who says attitude is cultivated? This chick has it at four days old! lol)
Too cute!! The last one has that "You looking at me?!"

Ash, How do you know if bird is a cross? I have no idea what to call my bird below. I know that the roo was called a BR cross. The hen was labeled an EE. I really want to be correct in what I call my birds.
