Maine

Ok, I need someone to settle my mind and tell me to remain calm. I am most likely growing impatient and have to take a step back and regroup.

We have had chickens since the first week of March, our first time. Two weeks later, the bug bit again and I got 6 more. So, now I sit and watch 13 lovely ladies and one hearty roo prance around and eat bugs and grass. Life is good. My problem is that I have no eggs...not a one. I have built large nest boxes, filled them with straw, the coop is plenty large, lots of room and space for the girls to hang out. I feed them well, leftovers, grains, mealworms, fresh water every day...I take good care of my ladies. When will I get a return? When do the eggs come? We have to be close...it hurts to buy eggs at the store, knowing that once it starts...can someone please help!!!!

I do not want to be greedy, just want to know that we are doing things right.

Thank you all!

How old are they? Many breeds don't start laying until close to five-six months old. So if you got yours as day olds they are now about 18 weeks give or take. If so you are close. Just be patient the eggs will come when you least expect them.

Anyone else watching Nik Wallenda trying to cross the Grand Canyon on a high wire? It is online (Skywire Live) and on Discovery Channel. Not sure why I am watching it other than to see if he can do it. All I know is that I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

Well I have drenched chickens loose in my garage right now thanks to that storm. The girls wouldn't go in the coop (they went under it like usual, which normally is fine) and the yard flooded big time. I went to go put them in the coop at the start of the storm, but I could here that telltale crackling sound and my hair was standing on end, so I had to go inside asap. I went back out after it became safe and they were huddled in about 2" of water. I towel dried them and brought them in. Their covered feed dishes were flooded and ruined. Lots of cleanup for tomorrow.

Great. Thanks

Sorry, Widget. I called my Dad right after I posted that, last PM and it's been 19 yrs, since he sold his business (can't believe it's been that long!!). Unfortunately, he wasn't familiar with that model. It must be a newer one. However, just remember: "Nothing runs like a Deere!"

Well thanks anyway. And from everything I have read the mower is a good one and should last for many years. I gave it a quick look while I was at Lowes this morning. The weather wasn't cooperating so I didn't spend much time. It will be a couple weeks before I am ready to even think about getting one.

Widget--I have always had a Tracfone and haven't had many problems. Both my kids have StraightTalk (unlimited text, data & calls) $45 a month. They get coverage in places I can't. On the JD, my husband has always owned them and never had a problems with them. He's bought them used and new always the same results. Good tractors!!

Pellepeterson--I hear ya!! I am patiently waiting for my first eggs from my 3 girls that hatched in February. I think we're close. They've been checking out the nesting boxes! Can't wait for both of us to post our first eggs!!

Widget - I recommend NOT buying from lowes. You may pay a little more to buy from a local dealer but if anything ever goes wrong with it Lowes will not help at all. If you buy from a local dealer they will be much better at helping you with issues and repairing any problems. As I have mentioned I have had a horrible time with the Husqvarna tractor I got at lowes. Lucky for us DH came up with a way to fix it on our own with a little tinkering. It will be a $70 repair instead of a $400 repair. I am crossing my fingers it works! Also I have had great luck with Verizon and LG phones. I love them. I have an LG Vuze and it does whatever an iphone does. Granted, I am grandfathered in to an unlimited data contract that is really cheap - or else I might consider other options.

Pellepeterson; don't worry - most of my orpingtons and easter eggers didn't start laying until 20-22 weeks! I was so impatient but it happened :)
