Hooray for the first eggs!
One of my pullets started up while I was away. The pullets were in a separate part of the coop at the time, and DH did not even think to check for eggs in there, since none were laying. I came home to find a clutch of 3 tiny green eggs.
I know a lot of you process your own birds, but I was quite surprised to find that some butchers are already booked through the summer! Luckily, I got an appointment for 8 of our roosters on Saturday. They are 18 weeks old, and while I usually wait until 22 weeks or so, they are loud and obnoxious so I am looking forward to their departure. The other 11 are still growing, and so far, they are a much friendlier bunch.
