Maine

sorry about your rouen. you might take in one of the local swaps. it is duck season at the swaps and hopefully you can find one. most of the swaps have a thread that you can post you are looking for one and what swap you think you might attend. the link is at the bottom of my post.
Hi there I am a newbie getting lots of good info but my main reason for joining is to find a new mate for my very depressed female rouen. My male died unexpectedly Friday morning. they were inseparable and now she just mopes around. We found him Friday morning in the dog house she was laying next to him he was fine when I locked them up for the night they share a house with 2 month old geese and have been since the geese have been 2 weeks old. I really just need to find here a mate she is so lonely. He was about 3 months old and just getting his green head and white ring. He was beautiful and was a snuggler too. If anyone out there knows of someone selling rouens please let me know. Thanks

welcome Melissa77. I raise silkies, and wyandottes mostly. I do a bunch of new colors.
I know this thread was made a few years ago, but I wanted to add to it in hopes of bringing it back, I would love to hear who has what available now . We are looking for layers older than 12 weeks preferably. 10 weeks minimum. I have been in touch with Empire Acres in regards to the Black Giants. I LOVE those, will be picking up 2 Sunday. Does anyone have those? What do you like, dislike? Thanks!!

Hi Melissa77-welcome! I got my first Silver Laced Wyandotte, this summer and so far really like her. She is only about 8 wks old, but is pretty cute and seems like she'll be quite pretty. I also had only Barred Rocks, last year, but have gotten a bunch of other kinds, this year. The SLWs were the breed I was especially looking for and now, I finally have one. Good luck!

Melissa77! Lots of good info on this thread! I'm still new to keeping chickens myself--only had them since October.

I know no one can solve this dilemma, but I just have to share. My BSL has been laying multiple eggs and most often her eggs are double yolkers. This morning, she laid a nice normal pullet egg IN THE NEST (only b/c I blocked off the area under the perch that she has been nesting in) We got back home this evening, and I ran out back to check on the girls. She was all puffed up again, walking slowly in the yard, and I watched her lay an other "rubber" egg. The girls broke it and started eating it before I could intervene... Then, within an other minute, I watched her lay yet an other "rubber" egg. So, this is 3 eggs in less than 14 hours. Have any of you had similar circumstances with pullets that eventually calmed down into a state of normalcy?????
Wow LazyG! That's a lot of egg in so little time! I have one new girl who is laying rubber eggs too. I've been offering oyster shell in a separate container but am thinking I should just mix into the feed.

BTW my little partridge chantecler/faverolle chick I had in the house who was acting off is back with her Momma & sibs in the coop. They took her right back in no issues, thank goodness!

I was worried as I've grown fond of her. Thank you to all who had advice for me! I truly appreciate it!!!

I had to google them last night. Sounds very interesting. Please share details about how you stumbled onto this "breed". Have you ever met one before getting your puppy? How old is he/she? Sounds like the genetic background would produce a very healthy dog.

The first I ever heard about them was way back in 2002 when the shelter in Kennebunk had two puppies up for adoption on their website. I ended up adopting one. While very shy around strangers Sarah proved to be very smart, playful and an overall great dog. Her ideal weight is about 40 pounds. Now at 12 1/2 she has slowed down and is showing her age. She does have hypothyroidism and heart issues. I know it won't be long before she makes that one last trip to the vet but she has had a great life considering the average lifespan for the feral Potcakes in the Bahamas is 2. I have been in contact with the rescue I got the new puppy from for the past few months. I knew when I lost Sarah that I would love to have another Potcake. But when I lost Samantha the Pyr a couple weeks ago I decided to see what the rescue had available. That was when I saw Jadzia's picture on the website and after talking with the person who runs the rescue I went ahead and adopted her. She is about 10 weeks old and like Sarah came from the Bahamian island of Abaco. Another group called Underdogs to the Rescue picked her up in Georgia and brought her up to Rhode Island where I picked her up.

Oh my!!!! She is just way too cute. I am a huge fan of Heinz 57! If I could have a dog..... these dogs would be such a temptation. Love the short hair. How does Sarah do in the winter weather???
