Maine

Sounds like a fun evening.

My chicks are getting their grown up voices.  Tonight, they were squabbling over some Cajun broccoli.  (a bit too crispy on the grill!)  One of the rose comb brown leghorns was running around with a chunk of broccoli, and honking like the horn on a clown car. These little RCBL are comical... not friendly, quite flighty, but they run around like the "Road Runner".  (Wil-E-Coyotee's nemesis)  I expect them to be good little egg layers.

I think i see curly tails on #1 and #3. Can't tell with #2. Old eyes! Nice looking ducks. Let me know if they lay any eggs!!!

haha yah, I'll be sure and do that.

So evidently the order for three khaki ladies turned into three khaki drakes. I'll be trying to trade/sell two of them for some ladies now I guess. Just when I thought I was done messing around with this, and could actually build them a nice house and let them enjoy themselves!

After a week of checking an empty trap we finally caught something ferocious that was digging in the compost pile for the quitter hatching eggs. I just don't know how I'm going to get it out without being attacked;-)

Cknidy: I think you will have to let it wander away on its own. I got jumped at by one a long time ago and bit off the end of the walking stick I was carrying. Scary. I was new to the woods back then. Now I give them a wide berth.
I almost forgot to shut up the chickens last night. I had let them out to free range that last hour or so before sunset. I usually stay out with them so they won't get in my garden, etc but after a horrendously long day at the hospital , well. I went in for a minute to put on my pjs, sat on the couch and fell asleep! I woke up at 1030 and was going up to bed and suddenly thought of the chickens. Went out with the flashlight and sure enough they were all on their roost in the wide open coop. I was really lucky. We have had raccoon and skunk sighted in this yard lately and I have heard the foxes many late evenings. All my friends have lost one or two. I was just lucky!

That looks like a box turtle, not a snapping turtle. Don't think you're at much risk with one of them ;-)

I've hauled 2 snappers out of the roadway by the house this summer. One was so big that I had to literally force it into a 5 gallon pail, his shell was touching the sides as it went in. Biggest I've seen. Could have quite easily taken fingers off. The second was just the size of an average dinner plate. Still a decent sized turtle, but nothing like the first monstrosity.

We aren't afraid of the box turtles, lol, we were just expecting the ferocious racoon that's been looking at the menu lately. I sent the kids down to 'release the creature and don't get attacked!' They all came back from the chicken acres with huge grins and a new friend. They later released him at the top of our property diagonal from the chickens so maybe he'll stay gone for awhile. Found a wasp nest above the door by the broody this afternoon so wondering how to safely get rid of it this evening with the least amount of disturbance to her. Less than 6 wasps but half of a dollar bill in size already.....

I'll trade you for my surprise today... see below.
