Maine

Hello all! I am new to the site and am in Maine along with all of you! I am from the Mid-coast and am starting my flock this year!

I am actually looking for some light sussex bird (chicks or pullets) if anyone knows where I can get some! I only want a few since I have 10 black australorp chicks and several buff wyandotte eggs that will hopefully hatch!! I really am more into dual purpose birds but I will also be adding meat birds this summer!

Welcome to BYC!! :frow

Hello to all the new people.
Have about 8 eggs incubating now since I caught them a few days in a row still warm.
I also appear to have a rat making raids at night and stealing or eating some eggs. Grrr! Time to go to war.
Hoping to get rid of my black Australorp's. Breeding quality EE'S and Ameraucana's is gonna be harder than I thought. People with really good silver Ameraucana chickens don't want to get rid of really good ones.
Hope everyone is well

Anyone here in Maine have Buckeye chickens? I've been reading up on them and have heard claims that they are active Mousers and even better than cats. I have thought about getting some of these before I got the Black Australorps.

Hey all, I hope everyone is staying safe in this lovely weather today. I started a thread today following months of researching and looking around for where I could locate some chickens locally. I figured I would share the link here and see if we can't get some content into that thread and share some knowledge and promote some local business. If anyone would like to add or refer people to the below thread on Breeder/Hatcheries in New England, I would appreciate it. I just had a real difficult time trying to find people in the area and was hopeful of compiling a resource for people looking to keep their business local or looking for specialized breeds in the region. Thank you!

I have 4 pullets and a lovely Buck Eye cockerel. Hopefully, I'll be setting up to hatch some Buck Eye chicks this spring.

I am also planning to hatch some black and red sex link chicks which will have pea or walnut combs, and some EE chicks.

I am not NPIP, nor do I intend to become certified. However, I have not had any disease issues in my flock.

Not at all, thank you for passing this along! I'm hoping for a good group of people to share their birds in a common thread where we can all look around and see whats available locally!
