[Double-0 Chicken]

I am trying a bag of Green Mountain Organic feed and my egg production has dropped to four or so eggs a day (from 7 or 8). Anyone have this issue with GM feed?

They are free ranging late in the afternoon when I am out with them. We had a fox take one of them two Thursday's ago but production was fine after that until the feed switch. I was thinking maybe they might need time to get used to the food change? Could be stress related, I'm sure but the timing with the food was just too close to not consider it. Usually when they are out if one needs to lay they go back into the coop to do their business and then announce it in the doorway and go back to join the flock where ever they might be

After a little while, they should get used to it, and return to business as usual. Typically though, the change in production would happen a week or two after the switch, instead of immediately.

A couple other things that come to mind- Which layer product are you using? I am curious if it is our "Course Layer", which is more of a novelty feed, than a production based feed. I have tons of customers that love that stuff, however, it is not made to produce like our "Layer Pellets" are.

Also, could you take a peek at the "best if used by" date on the tag. Every once in a while, we find that a feed store didnt rotate product properly, and ends up selling outdated product.
