Not sure, it's been 4 hours in the slow cooker on high and the veggies aren't tender yet. I'm thinking it's going to be tomorrow, which stinks! Although the pie... 30 more minutes. Got the recipe out of the BYC Cookbook too... totally worth the price of the book just for that tasty treat.

Right now very nice. Overall I guess it depends on what you like. I hate hot weather. Anything over 80 (forgive me for not converting to Celsius) is too hot for me. Temperatures range from well below freezing to three or four days a year above 90.
Depending on where in Maine you are the weather does vary a bit. Closer to the coast it tends to stay a few degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Not much of a difference but sometimes enough to make things more comfortable.
We do get snow. Usually starts in December and stops in March with the once in a great while April storm. Then we have mud season until everything melts. Followed by black fly season. Also tourist season. That lasts until late fall after all the trees have lost their leaves. Then it is back to winter.

widget, where I live in maine, snow starts in oct and ends in march. don't sugar coat it. I was surprised by a june snow storm a few times. many times we are about zero or 10- 20 below F. and if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it will change. can you tell I' m not from maine and I hate the weather. especially this yr, it's been in the low 60's and 2 days ago 50's . I'm still waiting to see summer. the one nice thing about winter, it kills lots of bugs outside like fleas otherwise, it could be alot worse.

Wow that sounds busy! May i ask whats black fly season?

black fly season runs with mud season but it lasts till about mid july here just north of bangor it starts about mid april till the first of may befor ot really kicks in its the spring hatch out of small flys about half the size of a skeeter and can drive a sane man nuts in a few days the way they swarm

Ths year the bugs have been worse due to all the rain!

Tourists don't come to Temple...they stay on the coast or near the lakes

Necessary Items: Termal underwear, a snowblower or plow, a woodstove when the power goes out, hardy chickens or lots of heat lamps!

You're right, Hoppy..sugar coating just makes folks move here and then move away!!!

HAhahahahaha! You guys crack me up! Its so funny how different the views on weather in maine can be from one person,to the next! I am a native Mainer, but a city girl (grew up in Portland). Once I graduated high school I left and ended up spending 9 years in Tx. I usually tell people that it was 8 yrs and 364 days too long! Talk about miserable! I will sacrifice my right leg to the biting bugs of maine before I will live in a place where I find tarantulas, scorpions, "palmeto bugs" (dont even lie, they are gigantic cocroaches!),cottonmouths, rattlesnakes.....yuck, the list keeps going!
Needless to say I am home now, living in the lakes region about 30 minutes from portland. I love it! Lots of snow from december til march, but thats ok! I love being snuggled in the house with the pellet stove going watching my husband shovel (

). Fall is absolutely gorgeous, spring is wet for a little bit but then so green it makes leprauchons jealous! Summer is my least favorite, but even that is survivable! And unlike the south, stuff stays green in the summer and it its still safe to leave the house!

Anna, I'm with you.....I am originally from Massachusetts but dh was military so we lived in many places. I HATED down south, the stress from the bugs alone(red ants, black widows, etc) drove me insane making sure the kids were ok. I know if I let them out here the worst that happens is a few bites and maybe a tick

I especially love fall up here... we also lived in Alaska....sleds and Halloween just wasn't fun...or taking 20 mins putting on snow clothes when they can't be out for more than 15 mins so they didn't get frostbite.....whereas here they are out for hours
I love it here
