Be careful, I saw a post on here about a chicken getting caught in the flypaper!
Mine are jumping after the blackflies in the glass door.

About the predators, I had chickens free ranging for two years, with foxes walking just feet from my coop, and never had a problem. This year the fox figured it out! It took one chick and came back an hour later and grabbed another. I got lucky enough to catch it in the act and scared it off. Plus I have a vigilant GSD who has been hanging out outside in the early morning and late evening. He has chased something out of the yard and throught the woods and pasture three times. ( He is THE MAN!) I think the foxes went elsewhere finally, he's not stalking around the yard growling anymore, and I havent lost any chickens. I close them up at night now, electric poultry netting, and pretty much only let them out to roam when we are home, and the dogs are out

It seems like alot of people have been having problems this year, alot of my chicks went to people who lost their whole flock to something that got in some random hole, or inside a fenced in back yard (that was a person who breeds dogs that spend all day in that yard! )
Be vigilent, and good luck!

I also would be into a swap in bangor! Mybe I could rehome some of these roosters!!!!! Anybody want a rooster? I'll deliver!!!!!!

Just picked up five lavender Muscovy ducklings at the Sanford swap.

And I just put three eggs from my chocolate hen into the incubator. Wish I had more but three will have to do. Now for the long, long wait to see if they hatch.

I would love to see a picture of a lavender Muscovy when they have their color.
I have 7 boys and I female Muscovies, all black and whites, if you know of anyone that has any lady Muscovies they would like to swap for a male, I'd be happy to swap.

I am in hopes I have made it much more inhospitable for the critter (probably fox) who has had one too many chicken dinners. I took the weed whacker to the paddock area where it has been picking off the hens, and made it difficult to hide in the tall weeds, there are very few left. I run two strands of electric fence for Ms Grace the horse, I went all along the fence line with the weed whacker and lowered the bottom wire. There is only one place a small fox could get under without getting zapped and I peed there, LOL.
A friend of mine who has pugs and a back yard that borders on the woods was having trouble with foxes in the yard. These were tame enough so that when her hubby threw a rock at one of them, it went over to check out the rock.....
They started collecting their urine and putting it on the back of their property line and have not seen a fox for a week now.

Ms Grace has a run in she uses in the summer so she can come and go as she pleases, and she was hearing something tonight, so I hope if something is around it gets a shocking welcome.

I wonder if you can interrupt a wire electric fence with a length of netting then reattach the wire fencing. I am so electrical stupid it is not funny.

I couldn't agree more with the need for a swap in the Bangor area!! It would be so nice to have the opportunity to get and give things without the travel!!

have you thought about where you could do this? they don't seem to have many feed type stores or I'm not looking in the right place.
I am trying to help the augusta TSC to do more swaps of all kinds. the original person left (medical leave maybe) and the current person has no idea of her notes so needs help. I don't know anyone with other farm animals other then chickens really, but figured this could be a farm swap with poultry and one more chance to sell.
if anyone has names of groups (4-H or goat/alpaca or whatever) they can contact me on here or cindy at TSC in augusta.

Here's a link for a company that sells electrifiable poultry fencing.

http://www.premier1supplies.com/fencing.php?mode=detail&fence_id=96

They ship, it's a bit costly, but it lasts FOREVER and is movable - suitable for your free range philosophy.
