my local hannaford sells lamb, bison as well as the regular meats. you could alway check your local butcher, they are the ones processing them and many times people will trade some meat for having it processed. if they don't have the meat, maybe they can direct you.

well maple lane farms is the butcher shop i like to go to in charlston they might have lamb from time to time they butcher about any kind of meats there ive had them do a moose a few deer and a friend of mine takes in a beef animal and a pig every fall and we have both been happy with them and they are usda inspected now they are selling meats in the local stores as well as at the shop might try them

Need some advice from my fellow Maniacs!
I have 4 ee chicks that are 4 weeks old today. I am really anxious to move them out to their coop but I am afraid to rush them out too early. What do you all think? Are they ready to move out? I take them out in a little pen during the day and they do great foraging. And they have met my pair of cochins through the fencing a few times and all seems to go well in that respect. I am Just a nervous momma!

I'm still looking for Golden Laced Wyandottes.

And I just had a Barred Rock go broody on me, right now I got her sitting on a some eggs. I think it's time to get my other coop and use it for Rocky (the broody barred rock). I'll put her in there with the eggs that way she won't be bothered by the rest of our flock. I can't wait to see if they hatch. Her eggs will be a Barred Rock/ Brahma mix. LOL should be interesting. I stuck an egg from one of my Golden Comets beside her and she pecked it then lifted her wing and scooted the egg under her. That was a neat thing to see. Wish us luck and hopefully 21 days later we'll have chicks.

There was, of course some minor squabbling, but nothing worriesome. The only odd thing I did notice is that I apparently have prejudice chickens. Out of the 4 younger ones, 3 are dark brown and one is white. My grey cochins (wait, blue right?) Keep chasing Houdini, the white guy away!
What do you think about me letting them sleep in the same coop tonight? There is still a rather large size difference between the 2 groups...

2 more hens gone to foxes yesterday...this is getting old fast...Still hoping to make the wilton farm swap this sunday.

Sorry to hear about the foxes grabbing hens! I've been lucky here so far.

Today I found one of the nest boxes full of mites. They were crawling all over my hands.

I cleaned it out and sprinkled DE. I couldn't find evidence of mites in the other boxes, which I thought was weird.
