Maine

I have lavender orps and some black orps (those are incubating). also a few that are wyandotte/orp, those are going to be big birds!

Have you considered Orpingtons ? I decided to add a Buff Orpington to my flock last year, and she is HUGE ! She's a gentle giant. I'm thinking about adding a couple more.

there are people that will incubate for you (like me) if you want to order some eggs, you can have them shipped here. just plan on picking up on hatch day. I charge a very reasonable rate.

I think I would like to get one that does around 24. That sounds like a decent way to start out.

I am still so on the fence about ordering some hatchery birds. I would really like to add a couple of nice, big birds to our flock. I have always liked cochins, and recently started eyeing jersey giants. I read that the hatchery birds, jerseys in particular, arent usually as big as others and I have a cochin roo who is a hatchery bird that I think it beautiful, but his leg feathering stinks. I have seen cochins around, but have yet to find anyone in Maine offering Jerseys. The one lead I did have on Jerseys here in Maine didnt pan out....So I still dont know what to do!

The Brunswick Jersey girl didn't pan out? Does she still have the flock?

I love my english orps, they are massive. Everyone that sees them thinks they are turkeys until they get close enough to see how heavy they are.

Thanks to aceschix in NH. I have a FLOCK of LF Cochin chicks!!!

The eggs they sent were fertile and produced this bunch of vigorous chicks!

I'm now moving into LF Cochins, since folks seem to want chcikens that lay LARGE EGGS!

PS......And I have bantam cochins. I read somewhere on these posts that they are hard to find. Nope.....been here all along :)

My guineas are reminding me of why I don't really like them. Last night they decided they didn't want to go back in the coop, so they spent all night in a tree next to it. (through all of the snow) They don't seem too bright.

Hoppy, Congrats on getting more of your bloodline back. If you get some roos, I'd be willing to buy one.
